S7 391 BIOS Upgrade 2.12 - Cannot Access BIOS Settings

I upgraded the BIOS on my S7 391. The computer still boots normally, except you can no longer access the BIOS settings with the Fn F2 keystrokes. Is there a new way to access the BIOS, or do I have to wait for a newer BIOS upgrade to fix this problem (and hopefully also the wireless signal disconnect problem)?

This BIOS has been pulled from the support.acer.com website and is no longer available to download. It is still listed, but when you click on it, its not there. I don't know if it still appears in the auto-update. I think the lack of Fn F2 might be a mistake. I recommend others should not install this BIOS for now.

Not so Grasshopper. BIOS 2.12 is still available for download, but I would think twice before doing so. As I mentioned previously, I could no longer access the BIOS functions under version 2.12, so I reloaded BIOS ver. 2.09. Windows System Information shows that I have the 2.09 version installed, but I still cannot access the BIOS settings.

Great!!!!!!!! Doesn't anyone test this stuff before uploading to the Official website?

Quick workarond you could try if you still have a valid (booted) win8 install: press left shift while you select "reboot". Keep it down until a dialog appears: choose second option (I suppose in english will be something similar to "Fix problem", but not sure as I use spanish) then "Config UEFI firmware" and reboot.

However, a key combination to enter UEFI at system boot would be highly appreciated and essential if win8 doesn't boot.

    Best regards

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried the keystroke sequence that you suggested, but I did not achieve the expected results as listed in your post. The system just rebooted as normal without any other option prompts. Somehow the new BIOS seems to have blocked (?) that action, even though I reverted back to BIOS version 2.09. I guess I will try to call customer support.

Again, thank you for your interest in my problem. Perhaps I should listen to the warning stated by ACER when they tell you to not install a new BIOS unless instructed by ACER support. But it is hard to resist not installing any and all new drivers and BIOS updates when posted. There is always the underlying feeling as though the new firmware/software updates are going to magically transform your computer, and you will be ahead of the rest of the other similar computer owners. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. I know better, but I doubt if I'll ever change.

Just upgraded to 2.12 and no problem, the only difference is that it seems they fixed the weird problem with the brightness of the screen I had when switching from dark images to the bright ones, I could see how after switching back to the bright image, the brightness of the screen and sharpness changed

It was actually the contrast that was changing in small steps over a number of seconds. You are right, 2.12 seems to have changed that behaviour. Just after the forum post about problems with 2.12, I went to the Acer site and the download was unavailable...then it re-appeared sometime later. I wonder if they fixed an issue with it which is why the original poster lost their F2 access while you and I are okay.

    Good day

For some weird reason, if you running Windows 8, switch on the machine you wont be able to access the bios, this his happening on my machines that have been pre-loaded from factory with Windows 8 and with Windows 8 Upgrades and happening both on EFI and UEFI. Im relating to 6 machines. Now, they only that i manage to access the bios is if I RESTART the machines. I dont know if anybody is experiencing the same problem.

    Regards,

Freeza, you are absolutely right. You can only enter the BIOS when you RESTART! It does not work from power on. How strange!
