Tablet Iconia W4 821 with Intel 64 bit processor - to install windows 10, 64-bit or 32-bit?

I have an Acer Iconia W4 821 (windows 8.1 32bit installed, 64GB, 2GB RAM, Intel 64 bit processor).

Should i install Windows 10 64 bit version or 32 bit? Acer has only 32 bit drivers on its website. Does Windows 10 (64-bit) have the required drivers to run the Tablet properly as Acer has not provided 64 bit drivers on its website.

Will Windows 10 (64-bit) be able to run currently used programmes like windows media player, display webpages containing Flash, and run Excel with Active X controls?

I would be grateful for your help.

The problem is that the ventless (no fan) design of the tab requires power management to keep things from overheating. The power management drivers seem to be only available from Intel and not for 64 bit yet.

The last time I saw any mention of 64bit power drivers for Bay Trail was in March, has there been any word since ?

I expect that many drivers will not be available for Windows 10 until release, especially drivers for tablets that aren't strictly generic. If that doesn't deter you from installing W10, use the 32 bit version. There is minimal gain to 64 bit on a 2GB RAM device.

64 bit and 2gb RAM is pointless.

Many thanks for your valuable suggestions.

I have installed Windows 10 (32-bit) and it runs flawlessly.

It has several new options, better fell, more user friendly and probably runs faster.

Running it since 2days now without any hiccups on my Tablet as well as netbook.

There is nothing to loose, if you dont like it, one can always go back to earlier one using recovery disk.

Windows 10  64 bit will fail on a W3 and doubt a W4 would be different. If it worked, it would probably need to be a clean install and would not have the power management drivers.

I installed 32 bit as an update to 8.1 after creating a recovery image on a 1TD HDD

Did have some glitches: had to uninstall/reinstall the Broadcom WiFi, DisplayLink has a special driver for Win 10. But nothing serious.

Some of the apps have different invocations (have to use MSPAINT instead of PAINT) but no big. The eXit at the upper right is back for the new-style apps.

May be able to run in 1GB RAM but with nothing loaded it was occupying 780 MB so 2 GB is a realistic minimum.

There's 64 bit compatible DPTF driver versions like 7.1.0.172, even though It installs the same 32 bit services.

I asked ACER whether i can install Windows 10 (64-bit)

ACER has replied as follows "Acer Iconia TAB W4-821 is designed for Windows 8 -32 bit version operating system only.  64 bit Operating system will not support."

The useful inputs from this acer forum, Microsoft forum and some more forums suggest that there is no point going for 64-bit when the RAM in Iconia W4 820 is limited to 2GB, the minimum suggested by the community is 4GB.

Further, all the troubles of several things not working as the same are not yet supported by various manufactuers is not worth the effort.

So, untill the entire eco-system turns 64-bit, we may have to wait.

Agree but for the wrong reason. Only reason not to go to 64 bit is the lack of power management drivers and not a lack of Ram. 64 bit runs happily in 2 gb (uses about 780 MB with nothing extra, couple of browser pages open and still under 1 GB.

That said what I want is a W4 with Z3770, 4 GB ram, USB 3, BT 4, and a GPS. Of course the question then is what will it take to power the beast so want an external 12v power jack & replacable battery also.

Meanwhile some clueless person decided on Z3745Fs and 1 GB ram. They should be condemned to use one.

I've tried the uninstall reinstall broadcom workaround several times but no luck. Also tried both drvers available under device manager but no luck there either.  would appreciate any other ideas. Thanks

Best bet is to go back to 8.1 until 10 is ready to use.

I'm running the 32 bit Win 10 on my W3 and is working fine with the stock drivers. Did have to roll back from 9926 to 98xx because 2 of 3 times the boot would fail "could not find desktop" and the screens woulld not size for 1280x800.
