SD card slot stop working after a1-830 kitkat upgrade

Hi,

After updating the a1-830 (Spain), sd card slot stopped working. As I said in other thread, it may be coincidence, besides there is no other reason why (no water, no falls, no high temperatures ...).

Checked the sd card in other devices - works OK

checked other sd cards in the 830 - none worked

reset to factory settings - nothing, not any error messages ...

My question is, is there some log, dump, anything where I can search for error messages, to find if the problem is truly related to the upgrade?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I tried but nothing happened... until applied the last patch, then the SD card is recognized, mounted and unmounted every second, and ramdomly saying that the card has not a valid filesystem.

I will try another factory reset, and if after that still have the same problem, go finally to the store I bought it.

I'm going to mark this as solved, I think this has nothing to do with the kitkat update

Thank you all for your answers

    jocerm1,

There is nothing wrong with the device or your SD card. This is a limitation of Kitkat as some changes were made by Google for security purposes.

    Surry but:

"Google has implemented a change in Android 4.4 KitKat that affects how apps save data to SD cards. Apps will now only be able to write to files and folders that they have created. This could cause errors in Apps that access or write to SD memory."

don't solve the problem, the sd card is just not detected by the system, so there's no SD memory to write or read on it, and the slot is useless.

IF this is really a KitKat "feature", and there's not ART available on the 830, I just wonder if Acer could provide a method to turn back to 4.2.2

    Thanks anyway for the answer

Try to format SDcard to FAT32 in a PC again and see if this fix your issue.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

did you try mounting the SD card?  settings/storage/ scroll down to SD card and click "mount SD card"

    Try this:

Turn off device and remove SD card.

    Turn it back on.

When rebooted put SD card back in.

Maybe it's the same problem that the A1-830 has.

Try booting it without the SD card, then put the SD card in (as above).

Hi dpg2, I tried that with no solution, even in the setup menu (SETTINGS) to install to SD card he tries to analyze the space and then gives the error that "the card is empty" when trying to format stays the same! I will try to use another SD Card or format in FAT32.

Not sure what your issue is here.

Maybe the card is empty, if you format it it will be empty and it's not an error message.

What app are you using to analyse the SD card?

Because it's reporting that the SD card is empty it must be recognising the SD card drive, my solution is for devices (in my case A1-830) that do not recognise the existence of the SD drive after the 4.4.2 update (boot the device with no SD card inserted, then insert the SD card and the device then recognises the SD drive and any card that's present).

What happens if you connect it to a PC as a media device, can you see anything on the SD card and can you copy stuff to it (making it not empty).

Could have been one of the pirated cards, that purport to be something they aren't.
