Iconia W4 Teardown - Replace battery etc

Hi,

This is hopefully one for the future, as most of our W4s are 6 months old or less. But for when our batteries lose life, or other issues...:

Anyone know of a teardown guide for the W4 to allow us to replace the battery or carry out other procedures like screen repair? There is someone on this forum who managed it with a W500 so it may be possible with just some prying.

I know that it would be very tough to get hold of a replacement battery* and I guess an external pack would end up being the solution to give it more years of untethered service...

For reference, Lenovo ThinkPad 8 can be unscrewed for battery replacement I read in a review (others said not possible but it is on a German review site). Not sure on other 8 inch tablets.

Steve.

* EDIT: Actually not that hard to find a genuine replacement battery. One is listed on eBay US by CDS Micro. Interesting that it is listed as the same battery as the Iconia A1, which can be opened for replacement easily. So I think this is good news for future availability. At the time of writing, $40 delivered to US.

New Genuine Acer Iconia Tab W4-820 W4-820P Tablet Battery AC13F3L

Description: New genuine Acer Iconia tablet battery. 3.75V, 20Wh, 2 Cell.
Part #'s: KT.00203.004, KT.0020G.002, AC13F3L, AC13F8L(1ICP5/60/80-2).
Compatible Models:
Acer Iconia Tab A1-810, W4-820, W4-820P.

EDIT2: ...and when you search for AC13F8L the best price falls to $22 delivered on eBay US for a near new used one!! This is great news if we can get the device open! Note that the spec above looks to be wrong and it's a 4960mAH battery, both needed and provided, so I removed that text above to avoid confusion.

I'm aware through experience that used batteries are generally a bad idea (for performance reasons), of course, in any form...

EDIT3: Then searching for the AC13F3L which is also for A1 810 it is available even cheaper as nearly new. However this is a 5430mAH battery of what look like the same proportions. I guess we won't know if that goes in and further improves W4 battery life until someone tries it...

EDIT4: Sorry if this is confusing to read. I think there is a Russian site which shows a picture of a W4 battery in place and it seems to be the higher AC13F3L with 5340.

There is a forum post where a poor translation implies a suction cup can be used on the screen on the longest edge, maybe in the corner.

    Hi

Interested to know more about battery replacement.  Googling hasnt shown any w4 teardown yet.  I did learn more about charging between 40-80% and keeping the tablet cool to extend useful battery life.

Without a strong battery or a USB/charging combo microUSB accessory, reinstalling windows recovery disc will be almost impossible.

An update which should mostly answer your question:

Thank you for pointing to this teardown

I was also able to talk Acer Service in the Philippines.  Apart from warranty replacement, one of the recourse they offer is to replace Motherboard, and they replace batteries for the w4.
