Hi,

My Aspire 7560 (AMD A6-3400m) has 3 harddrive bays, 2 standard size and one in the middle which takes could be fitted with a mSATA. I installed a new mSATA SSD drive but got no reaction.

I then installed an mSATA from my other computer (V3-7720 Intel) - but got no reation.

Some users suggested updating the AMD AHCI driver - but I cannot find it on the Acer driver support, nor on the AMD website.

So, first question: is this a working mSATA drive?

Where could I find the drivers for it?

Thanks,

Did you check if BIOS recognizes the SSD?

    Hi,

The BIOS did not recognize the SSD. I upgraded the BIOS from the ACER website but it might have been downgraded instead as the previous BIOS version was 2.x and the it got "upgraded" to 1.07.

What would be a good next step?

If BIOS can't recognise the mSSD, probably there is a compatibility issue on mSATA port or there are some settings on BIOS to enable/disable mSata

Since the BIOS is set to AHCI mode, I was trying to get an updated AHCI driver.

For my Intel based laptop, on the Acer driver page, I get the option of downloading the SATA AHCI driver.

On the 7560 I do not get this option. The AMD page also does not list any AHCI drivers.

I suspect the "most uptodate" driver message from Windows with a version build from 2006 is not really that most uptodate.

Can you refer me to another source of AHCI drivers?

Quick question, what happens if I change the AHCI mode in the BIOS to IDE?

If the BIOS doesn't recognise the mSSD, changin AHCI to IDE or back, doesnt't solve the problem.

about AMD AHCI drivers, i can only suggest you to check on AMD website but this is an old model, so i don't know if is still supported and AMD chipset are not the best about compatibility.

changing AHCI to IDE, change how system will address HDD/SSD requests, normally this doesn't create any problem, IDE to AHCI often can block your system if you don't make some registry and driver changes.
