Add SDD to the Aspire M3985

Hi,

Just bought a Acer Aspire M3985 and want to add a SSD as startup device.

After disabling CSM and Secure Boot in the BIOS, I was able to have the BIOS start the SSD as first device.

Got that from another (non-Acer) forum.

But how can I tell the setup partition to setup W8 onto the SSD instead of the HDD ?

Momentarily I have setup a Windows version using a DVD onto the SSD, but I'd prefer the W8 from Acer.

Anybody an idea how to do this.

BTW: Acer support even didnt know that you are not able to boot from an other device :-( so no help from them.

Thx in advance!

Once the SSD is setup as the first boot device, you should be able to use Acer recovery media to load the operating system on that drive.

Is there an article that explains how to do this ?

I am not able to create recovery media other that USB in W8..

Guess I have to select SSD as first boot drive in BIOS, but start from USB device to get the recovery running.

    Not clear how to proceed..

    Hi.

You need to just have only the SSD plugged in when you do it. After the OS is completely installed, do a shutdown and connect the platter drive.

(You need to have recovery media dvd)

    Thx Tom,

How do I get a recovery media dvd ?

This might be a simple question, but I cannot find it in W8.

I can ONLY create a USB recovery medium, not a DVD. Not my choice but the program demands this.

Your solution sounds OK, but without a DVD no-go

We would suggest contacting Acer in your region for information regarding recovery media availability. Acer Service and Support
