I need help ! Acer Iconia w3-810 : Failure configuring Windows Updates

First day receiving brand new windows tablet.

After I had it setup, I proceeded to install 110 Windows Updates.

Download/install appeared to go ok.

Restart computer and at 97% completion I got this error..... Failure configuring Windows Updates. Reverting changes.

The loop has been going on for 2 hours.

I went to Boot option by pressing power + volume down, but I don't have an external dvd/dw drive ( waiting to deliver ), so I cannot do anything.

Is there another method to get out of the loop  and start the tablet normally ?

I couldn't help but ask... did you purchase this tablet through Woot.com? I purchased this tablet and ran into the same problem. They sent me a replacement and now I'm downloading 98 updates to windows now and I hope I don't run into the same problem again!

Check this out and see if this will help you with this issue: http://www.gotechtips.net/2013/01/windows-8-fix-failure-configuring.html

No. I bought it from eBay. The seller is in Canada.

By the way, for no reason at all, it restarted, after a few tries.

I am now back on the desktop.

I check the Updates History and all 110 updates failed. Yet they are not re-offered to me as of now.

Well, keep my fingers crossed and I am jumping right to Win 8.1 install. The hell with the Win 8.

This doesn't directly help you, but I've had that error with a recent Windows update on 2 different laptops.  A later update seemed to fix the issue.  They would have been running Win 7.

You will find that you need to have all the Windows 8 updates installed before the 8.1 update will work. Try installing only half of them. (They should show up again if you 'check for updates')

    Hi, Two things

    1. IF you didn't already, make sure your W3 is plugged in to power during updates/upgrades.

    2. Acer has instructions for the 8.1 upgrade here on this site. I think they say to have all updates MS and Acer before upgrading to 8.1.

Yes. Thank you. Actually, I knew that. I said so out of frustration. " Baby-sitting " the tablet for 5 hours and final result was a failed update is enough to raise blood pressure a few ticks.

I have decided to let it go Auto Update at 3 am this time. Maybe the **bleep** thing wants to do it by itself.

If successful, I'll switch back to Manual Update which is my usual setting.

Thank you. The battery was stone-cold dead when I got the tablet. I have it plugged in since it arrived at my door.

The tablet was so hot during 5-6 hours of download > install > configure, that I was worried it would catch fire.

It is turned off now but still plugged in. It is only 22% available, plugged in and charging.

Imagine, I received the tablet at around 10:30 am, plugged it in as soon as I took it out of the box, and by now the battery is only 22% charged. That makes me sick.

My tablet is stuck on "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer". How do I fix or get pass this screen? Running Windows 8.

I just gave up and walked away from it. Let it do the reverting "stuff". It took hours but finally it restarted.

That's what happened to my case.

That's actually normal when reverting failed updates, it takes much longer than the install attempt did. When you get that type of error it's best to just install a few at a time. Typically the error is either due to running out of space on the drive or conflicting updates. Either way when you install in smaller batches they're liable to get through them.

    Final update.......

Success at last after 20 hours+.

All previos failed updates are installed.

Successfully upgraded to Win 8.1 after 2 failed attempts. (  darn if I knew why.)

Now I can go to bed.
