Hello to all,

I want to report big problems during booting mode using more then one ACER models.

Problem in short is next:

- When you turn off UEFI mode in BIOS and

- Set new hard drive or convert GPT partitions to MBR ones and

- Want to start fresh clean installation of e.g. Windows 7/8/XP what ever which has after bios - so called pre boot mode where you need to press any key to move forward with installation from CD/DVD or flash usb drive or external hard drive offten keyboard doesn't work at all.

Some times is happen that even in some situation even keyboard and touch pad want work on models with P which has touch screen monitor but touch screen monitor is working Smiley Happy dramatic.

Because of this you need then to turn off laptop and turn it back and pray if keyboard actully will work.

Some of test models are

ACER Aspire E3-111 (over 20 pcs of same model has issue with keyboard)

ACER Aspire V5-122P

BIOS ver. on all models was 1.05 but I tried by flashing BIOS to last version from ACER web site for match model and same issue again is repeating.

Also to flash BIOS you should have installed 64-bits OS - Windows 7 64bits or Windows 8 64bits and so on since BIOS update which ACER provide on web site is 64bits version and you can't do BIOS update via 32bits OS's. This is also big problem if you eventually put 32bits OS and you need to update BIOS again.

I was very supriced that ACER make this crapy since I was thinking that they will provide as always solid qulity for certen price but guess they are becoming same as others.

Smiley Sad

i dont have a problem with saving settings to bios rom/flash.

I have a problem that keyboard and/or touchpad not working in preboot mode - part when actully bios is waiting on boot loader to start and or load something after bios loading is done.

time and date are correct set and most best indicator that battery isnt good is date and time which isn't i think a case and solution of my problem.

i think that is problem in keyboard initialization since they are probably using ps/2 interface on board and so on...

also if company buy over 20 pcs it cant be that for all is battery is problem hmmm Smiley Happy isnt?

you didnt mention which acer model or type of machine it is.

however, since you mention ps2, then you are likely referring to a desktop b/c laptop keyboards plug into the mobo via a ribbon cable.

but it is possible that the kb is faulty, hence is why the bios stalls.

if the bios does not recognize a piece of hardware, the booting will stall.

so, im guessing since you have tested your theory on at least 20 units, you have double checked its not a loose connection.

however at the same time, if a key on top of the board is stuck or shorted, then this will also be seen as a fault with the keyboard.

as a test, try plugging usb mouse and keyboard into the unit.

personally, i use usb's on my laptop instead of the using the onboard kb and touchpad.

i dont' like how small and sensitive they are.

so using the standard devices makes my life easier and i can manuever inside the bios setup screens as well as with the onboard versions.

I already give a name of some models.

    "Some of test models are

ACER Aspire E3-111 (over 20 pcs of same model has issue with keyboard)

    ACER Aspire V5-122P"

This problem exists even if you connect external keyboard over USB port.

i am on my second acer laptop and fortunately, i was able to repair this latest one.

but i was looking around to see what other laptops were available but skipping acer altogether - this time around.

let us know what you find out, if and when you call acer.
