Does the R7-572-6805 have an mSATA slot?

I know that the R7-572-6423 has an mSATA slot. Is that also true for the R7-572-6805?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I read through that post previously, as well as others describing users' adding an mSATA drive to the -6423 version, but I'd like to be sure before buying.

Since the -6805 seems to have been released a bit later in the US and US systems do not ship with an mSATA drive, I just want to make sure that the feature was not removed in the -6805 variant.

Click the SSD button for all the compatible SSDs. Crucial may have an adapter for fitting an mSATA SSD. Check with them for the 6805. They are very knowledgable/helpful.

    Hi Jack,

Thank you for replying. I'm not talking about fitting an mSATA drive to the regular 2.5" SATA spot. The earlier version of the R7-572 released in the US had an unused mSATA slot which could be used for a second drive (the system ships with a single 2.5" drive).

I would like to confirm that the mSATA slot is also present in the R7-572-6805.

I understand. The Crucial site only listed an mSATA adapter for the normal HDD bay  --- which suggests that the 6805 does not have a separate mSATA slot. To be sure, I strongly advise first checking with Crucial if you're not inclined to pop off the covers.

Thanks again for reaching out. The Crucial site doesn't address the matter even for systems, such as the R7-572-6423 that are known to have mSATA adapters (see below), likely because Acer doesn't reference the presence of the adapter in the formal specs.

I need to hear from someone who owns one of the -6805 units and has checked for the presence of the mSATA slot or from someone at Acer who can confirm whether the -6805 variant has the slot. A link to an authoritative reference clarifying the above would do, as well. ... everything I've found online relating to mSATA on the R7-572 references the -6423 variant. Thanks again.

Ultimately I would contact ACER directly. They usually answer.

Try the crucial scanner if you don't get an Acer reply. "Your Aspire R7-572 System Specs System specs as shipped by the manufacturer. Scan your system to view your specific system configuration."

Thanks for your suggestion. I gave that a try- as suspected the Acer Store rep said there wasn't an mSATA slot. That's the same thing they were telling people with the -6423 variant, even though it included an mSATA slot. Since the mSATA slot doesn't appear in the specs, representatives understandably just go with what's written down (which is all the information available to them).

I think I'm going to have to wait to hear from someone who owns one of these and has opened it up.

I went ahead and ordered a -6805 unit and will post what I find here on receiving the item. Worst case, if it lacks the mSATA slot I'll take advantage of the 14-day return policy and order a different model.

Sounds like a plan! I somehow thought you already had the machine. Sorry about that. Good luck.

Agreed! I'm ordering a 512GB mSATA SSD this weekend (Samsung 840). I'll update with the outcome.

The Samsung 840 Evo 512GB mSATA SSD worked fine. I just produced a recovery disk to a 32GB USB stick using the Acer utility, removed the 1TB SATA, plugged in the mSATA, and did a factory restore to the SSD. I then formatted and the 1TB disk using an external USB caddy and reinstalled it.

Yes- exactly. Now that I've ordered a 1TB SSD 2.5" SSD and 16GB of RAM I should be able to stick a fork in it and call it done!

Was that 1TB from the Newegg deal? i was debating on getting it, but i just might wait until Black Friday for the deals. Seems almost every other day both Newegg and Amazon are havnig SSD sales to compete against each other. The prices keep getting lower. Its either the 500Gb or the 1TB that I have my eye on.

The Samsung 840 Evo 1TB 2.5" was at $380 yesterday on Amazon, so I pulled the trigger. I overpaid a bit for the 500GB mSATA because I wanted to make sure it worked before the 14-day return period was up on the R7 purchase.
