Hi,

I have the New Iconia W700 Tab PC. This link was posted with intructions by an Acer Tech.

http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26281

It's not very helpful at all. The W700 doesn't have an application called "Acer Recovery" How can I do a restore?

Here's what came with my W700

1. System DVD

2. Recovery DVD 1 of 2

3. Recovery DVD 2 of 2

4. Recovery DVD English Language Pack Disc

I have a new HP external USB DVD drive pluged in.

I've tried the following:

1. Open the charm

2. Select change PC Settings

3. Select remove everything and reinstall windows

4. Insert the System DVD when asked (it does not say which one, so I would think it would be system, right?)

Then I receive this message

"The media inserted is not valid"

"Make sure to insert your Windows installation or recovery media"

I receive the same message if I insert Recovery DVD 1 of 2

Can someone at Acer please post some step by step directions?

Thanks

acer link method didn't work for me either. my guess you haven't made change boot order usb cdrom, usb hhd ahead of normal c drive in bios(get to bios, turn off, hold windows keys and power same time for a few seconds)

after sucessful changed, it should boot from system dvd. proccess about 2hr long or so.

or you could try general, advanced startup, restart now, choose usb to see if it boot from system dvd

I agree with previous poster - most likely you have not put CD-ROM in front of HDD in your boot order.

One comment concerning the boot into bios, holding the iwndows key at bottom of tablet and the start button: this will only work if you held the start/shutdown button for at least 4 seconds when you shut it down. Cost me a couple of futile tries to select shutdown from e.g. the power shutdown options or using the button for a short time. I believe these will only put the system to sleep, although it says shutdown.

When you start the system from sleep mode, you will not get into the bios.

BTW, first time I experienced a touch bios

I had problem as well using the restore option in the settings. But anyway below are the steps that worked for me.

    1. Go to PC settings

    2. Under General tab there is an option of Advance Restart

    3. Have your external DVD drive connected with the SYSTEM DVD in it

    4. Choose start in USB UEFI device

    5. Wait for awhile and tab will restart.

    6. Follow onscreen instructions afterwards.

None of these solutions work, advance start will tell you that there is no USB boot option, select another boot method.

I've successfully done a fresh windows 8 install and also a full recovery.

    1. You need a USB DVD drive.

    2. Make sure BIOS is in UEFI mode.

    3. Move the USB DVD drive up as first boot device (you may have to reboot into BIOS a second time to change this)

    4. Turn off FAST boot in BIOS

    5. Insert DVD into drive.

    6. Hold w700 power button down for 6 seconds

    7. Power ON.

if the w700 recognises the DVD drive it will reboot and pause on the ACER logo screen. There is a slight delay while the w700 reads the DVD so wait. (watch the DVD drive light and listen for it spinning).

To do a full recovery you must first delete everything on the drive. I just used a windows 8 dvd:

     a. start the windows 8 setup:

     b. choose custom install

     c. delete all drive partitions

     d. create new drive partitions (there should now be 4)

     e. format largest partition

     f. exit the windows setup.
