Hello

A couple of months ago I had reason to ask Acer to repair my V5-571 The fault was my screen started to flash as if there was a loose connection the light areas getting dark and the photos as if odscured somewhat..  Anyhow my health is not as it should be and I had to undergo heart surgury so the laptop did not get sent in for a couple of months and in the mean time another problem occured this being the DVDdrive It ejectod one day and it came right out of its rails and never worked since So they was also told about this.

Anyway the time came for it to go back and by now the flashing screen had stopped Soit was collected by UPS on the Wednessday at 4pm the next day at 3pm Acer called to say it was fixed and was back in the mail and it was delivered back at 11.30am Friday Now that is some turnroad for any repair. So I am very greatful toAcer to get it done so quicj they have a fantastic repair service And are second to none.

However the repair that was done was the DVD was replaced as they could find no instances of the flashing or even get it to flash like it had beeen when I first originally reported the problem. But lo and behold as I powered the laptop up I could see the flashing I just wonder if the journy back to me had jarred the laptop and caused the flashing once more  But there is only a couple of days to go on the original warranty and I have asked if because it had been reported before the warranty ran out it will be covered or if there was anyway to extend the presant warranty. That was Friday and I am waiting on the reply..

Also when I first got the laptop a year ago I had started to set it up and did something wrong so rather than have the error cause problem in the future I thought I would completely start again and did a reinstall thinking it would be the fastest way Now mine is a I5 chip so thought it would be fast But it took nearly a day to reinstall it Yes a Day LOL Im not sure what is wrong or how to check But thought I must never do that again. Also some months later I needed to do a roll back thinking that the previous  thing should not have any baring on this but the rollback took over 5 hours. I also reported that to Acer but as I have said I dont know how they could test or have reason to test if the laptop seamed to be working right. So this will have to go unsolved untill such time as I need to do another rollback. To which I have needed but tried to stay well away from.

That is unless anyone can suggest anything to to try to show that there is a problem or any other type of operation that will show up the slowness of the laptop in these circumstances?

Its the same with the flashing I dont blame Acer at all as if its not presant when they are looking at it on the repair bench HOW can they repair something that is not there?

But any suggestons greatly recieved..

Regards Osh

Record the defect/fault in action with a camera, and then upload it to youtube.  And make sure u refer/link your video to whatever support representative/technician you are communicating with.  It is a must, warranty repairs do not take the time to use/troubleshoot anything outside of their guidelines and plenty can happen with a laptop.

If you're trying to troubleshoot it yourself and don't know computers well enough then defaulting to the factory installation is a good start.

My case in point, a very simple fan malfunction that only rattles when the fan speeds/throttles up.  Sent it back, and it came back with the same fault(no replacement/repair done).  The second time around I was asked to pay out of pocket shipping and service charges because it was considered a non-warranty service request - replacing the fan.  This was HP by the way.  It wasn't until i recorded it and posted it that a replacement was actually done.

    Hi

This was the first thing I did and added it to my initial warranty claim.  But like it said I also developed a dvd drive error and due to health reasons the laptop was not sent in for nearly 4 months after the initial repair booking. But when it went back the flashing had stopped hence the tech that fixed it could not see the screen flashing so just fixed the dvddrive and returned it. Saying as much on the invoice.

I voiced my thoughts to Acer about the screen now reflashing and that the Warranty ended on the 27th of July and if there was a way of extending the warranty or with the problem being the flashing of the screen which was made at the end of March and the original problem that the warranty repair was orded for would it still be covered. The reply was to say the warranty had been extended for 3 months tocover the work and original claim.  And did I want to rebook the laptop back in for the screen repair.

Im quite ofay with laptops desktops netbooks and even servers Iv built far to many over my many years in computing possibly since thhe late 70s when I had one of the first Sinclare ZX80s A BBC Modle A B and so On and sent so much money on that comp it was un real I had twing external disks that woud store 400 megs at low density but then 800megs at double density and a max of 128k ram with a ram extension I lernt my first computer languages those being Cobol, C and Fortran And over the years many more as well as full network instalations from phone line to ISDN DSL but was way past it by the time Fiber BB appeard never nind FTTP. But all the same just at a faster rate.. And we thought ISDN was a jump forward LOL

So I think best corse of action is to book it back in and keep a eye on it and record any changes in the screen events over the next two weeks and if still same then I will book a UPS collection. I think that may be the best way dont you?
