Acer Aspire V5 Speaker Problems

Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire V5 on Windows 8 64-bit. I got a windows update about four days ago and all of a sudden, my Realtek speaker isn't working properly. When I start my computer, I can play music from VLC, media player and sites like YouTube. But once I close YouTube or VLC or reopen any program running any audio, no sound comes out. I've already updated my driver but it still isn't working. I try to configure the speaker but when I do, I get a prompt that an application running in the background has to be closed even when my browser and music players are closed. Audio also stops working when I mute and un-mute my laptop. I constantly have to restart just to get any sound but once I stop using a program with audio, Realtek stops working.

I also noticed that even YouTube is not running properly. The video loads but when I press the play button it doesn't work. And when it does play, like I mentioned, there is no audio.

Hi, I'm having the same issues with my Aspire E1-571. Pretty sure it began after a windows update too. I'm finding the speakers do work occasionally but most often I have to restart the computer. I also get the prompt telling me to close background programs (when there are none running!).

    Hi all,

I've received word that a recent update from Microsoft, KB 2962407, can affect Realtek and Intel HD audio. Please check your updates and uninstall this. It should correct audio issues. The KB is being addressed.

    Thanks,
    Cory

I found my solution.....right click on speaker icon in task bar in lower right corner....click on playback devices....double click on speakers...click on levels....go to microphone and mute the speaker icon out to the right of the slidebar....turns mic off and it is not picking up sounds when i type or touch the laptop.

    Hi piccadilly,

You can open your charms by (move your cursor to the upper righthand corner) and select Search.

Type in "Windows Updates" and go to Windows Updates. You can slected View update history, and inside there is an option to view installed updates. If you see KB2962407 you can uninstall it. This will help if you're loosing sound.

    Thanks,
    Cory

    Hi Cory,

I uninstalled the Windows Update and I do have sound now but I think it's at the expense of my Dolby Audio driver. I keep getting an error promt that there's something wrong with it. I tried enabling the sound effects for Realtek but then I lose the sound again. When it's ticked as disabled, I do get audio but of course, without the Dolby.

I'm not so sure about installing another version of Realtek's driver?

    Any suggestions?

Thanks Cory. I did a system restore to a previous date instead and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for your help.

I might suggest downloading the sound driver from our website. Uninstalling the current one, and then reinstall the newly downloaded driver to make sure everything is correct.
