SMART Failure Predicted - Failure Imminent - Hard Disk Drive

I have an Aspire 5738 and since yesterday I have been getting the following messages:  SMART Failure Predicted. Replace Hard Disk Drive. Failure Imminent etc...

I cannot contact support as my laptop is 3 years old and no longer under warranty. I have done a full back up on an external hard drive and I am ready to replace or fix the hard disk.

The "Instructions" provided by Acer with the error message says to contact support to try to fix the hard disk. But, I am unable to contact them (I can't  find a way to contact them).

Can the hard disk be fixed? If not, how do I go about to replace it?

Thank you in advance for your help Smiley Happy

A hard drive is easy to replace. All you need is a new compatible hard drive (the same model or even a better one) and a screwdriver. I know nothing about your specific model but mostly there is a cover at the bottom of your device, that can be removed. Behind that cover is your hard drive. Normally, if you take your device to a computer parts store they will help you to replace the hard drive unit.

You don't need Acer for that.

Thanks for the info. I will look into buying a new disk and installing it myself.
