Browser disappeared

Hi, I have just spent the past few tearful hours frustrated by my new-ish Iconia A1-830; earlier I performed the system upgrade and allowed the tablet to reboot itself as requested. I noticed a strange screen while this was taking place; the green droid showed a progress bar but also some Chinese characters as if displaying a foreign language. I didn't think anything of it and continued. Once it had finished and restarted I clicked the Browser icon on my homescreen as usual - nothing. I soon realised that the Browser app was no longer installed and could not find it anywhere. Have tried numerous solutions including last resort system reset but the original default browser has just completely disappeared. I had bookmarks, favourites etc set up just the way I like them and now annoyingly they have all gone. I don't like using Chrome so want to reinstall the default browser ASAP. Can anyone help as I am going completely out of my mind in trying to resolve this. Thanks

Hmm, the A1-830 I got about four weeks ago has Chrome as the browser and has had since I initialized it. Mine did that same update the other day and I didn't see anything noticably diffeerent. Which browser were you using if not Chrome?

Hi, thanks for speedy reply. It does have Chrome installed (but don't like using it) so I was using the default Browser. Don't know its name but it appeared as a small globe icon on the Home screen.

Yeah, I guess mine is new enough that it didn't have tht browser by default.

The same happened to me after the update. Was kinda hoping it would be 4.4 KitKat.

Thanks - what's 4.4 Kit Kat? and does it come with the original browser? there should at least be a warning that this would happen

It's just the latest version of Android, I've heard it only comes with Chrome as a browser.

We've had two udates recently, I believe them to involve getting everything ready for the KitKat update. That means removing that browser makes sense.

Anything else changed besides the browser?

no, that seems to be the only thing that has changed. Fairly trivial I guess but annoying when I didn't expect it and hadn't saved my bookmarks (perhaps the one redeeming feature of Chrome...) Thanks for all your comments and solutions, good to know it wasn't just me!

I had the very same thing happen to me when I tried to update the system.  My browser no longer works.  I liked it better than Chrome too.  I'm using a browser I found at the app store but I liked the browser that originally came with the tablet very much and wish I could get it back.
