Quite new Aspire E11 (E3-111) bricked by Acer's official BIOS utility - what to do now?

Yesterday I bought a new netbook for my girlfriend. I decided to make sure the netbook is using latest drivers and latest BIOS. So I downloaded official BIOS utility from support page (http://www.acer.cz/ac/en/US/content/drivers/5329;-;Aspire%20E3-111), extracted BIOS_Acer_1.05_A_A.zip and launched BIOS_Acer_1.05_Windows\ZHJ_105.exe.

The utility started to upgrade bios without asking (!), the system was restarted and I also saw a progressbar finishing 100%. Then I waited .... nothing (battery was full and AC was connected). Now the netbook is dead. Power On/Off button does nothing.

Is there anything I can do before I will go to return it?

My broken netbook was replaced for a new one. You can be sure I won't try to update BIOS again ;-).

Have you tried to remove the battery for a couple of minutes?

then insert the battery and connect the power charger, see if any led about battery/AC charge will light on and try to power ON.

Hello ACE, thanks for your suggestion.

The battery is integrated in the notebook. I am worried to open up the case because of possibility of loosing warranty.

I see a little "pin hole" with a symbol for removing battery on the back. I tried to to use a needle to press it. It had no effect - just a battery diod blinked. The netbook is still dead.

I think that the bios chip is corrupted, it's better if you contact the Acer service support.

That's pretty sad. I will write here a result of warranty claim.

    Hello Vity,

I'm sorry for the trouble you're going through in doing your updates. I've asked our support teams to review the BIOS update for the E3-111. I'll post a follow up once I know more.

    Thanks,
    Cory
