Seem to be having a run on problems lately ...anyway ... had a hard-drive go down on this unit so replaced hard-drive ( withe exact same type and model )  undertook a fresh install, windows 7 , all the updates downloaded as well as all the correct drivers and updates . The computer runs perfect ... however the wireless connection is low/poor but is acknowledged as being a connection . Other computers in the same location read the signal as being good ie 4 bars plus ... ?  when connecting a LAN cable computer is fine... but acknowleges that wireless remains low ...  have checked actual connection and it asks for a WEP key , so knowing the key I am using is true ( ie taken from other connecting laptops ) the computer says its unble to connect ? ... ( is this beacuse it considers the WEP key to be wrong ((but it isnt ) or the signal is so weak its unable to connect to verify) the WEP  ?  I have checked that the wireless driver is indeed correct and OS confirms its correct and is running wihout problems ... and up to date ... Any suggestions as to where I should go now ? ... The sytems is pure so cannot see what the issue is ..... Kind regards Paul

If you are receiving a message that the computer is unable to connect then it could indicate the key was not input correctly. You should be able to use Windows troubleshooter to help diagnose the problem. If the hardware is not working or if it was a driver issue, then you would not even be able to see the network or attempt to connect.

However, if the troubleshooter is unable to find the problem, then I would suggest contacting technical support for assistance.

    Hi Thanks for reply ,

Yes have tried all the troubleshoots but it says nothing can be found ... I have checked the drivers gain tonight ( even though its a new install with all the updates) and it replies saying that the driver I am using is up to date ... I think it is a software issue somehwre... Is there any other software I can run that would perhaps monitor /diagnose what is going on ?

If it was not the fact other computers are picking up the signal then I would have guessed the router, however I have had all this checked by Virgin and resetting the router and veryifing all is well there end ... Its strange as the Acer will also pick up networks that are in the area ..ie neighbours, and that amounts to 5 or 6 signals ...ok fair enough they are low which is to be expected ... so if the Acer can see these and also my own router ....why the shortfall in signal strength ?  The key is correct as I downloaded software the day before , when it offered full signal strength . This was obtained by removing melwarebytes and the signal came back straight away .... the only other  additional software on the system is Office , AOL, Chrome and thats it ..

I dont think Acer will support my enquiry as the product is out of warranty , but thanks for the suggestion

    regards
