Cleared certificates, disabled secure boot in bios, no go. please, help. got to be a way to boot something rather than windows on this machine. (all i really need is get access to files on windows partition).

Hi yuro, If you search here there are several messages about this. One big issue you will have is temperature control drivers. These are custom to Acer and this tablet.

i am aware of this, but i am not planning to install a different OS, just run dos for a few minutes to have some files deleted and get aome extra free disk space to be able to refresh image in case i ever need this done. Space issie here. Always need a gug or to to start refreshing))

i would guess the core problem is inability to switch bios mode from uefi to legacy in bios settings. i use msinfo32 command to view current mode and whatever i try to disable snd erase in bios doesn't change the uefi mode. starting to think this is intentional. i read other forum threads on this issue, but none have solutions. hm...

Are you saying you want to alter the original partitions to gain more freespace?

The reason I ask is I tried that and almost bricked it. By the grace God I got it back to running but it is not right.

no, i am trying to find a way to be able to delete some files in case of emergency, so to be able to refresh system image from backup. windows requires a lot of (relatively speaking) free space to do this and from time to time i need an extra gig or two. Windows PE comand prompt for some reason doesn't display all files. i have been thinking about a way to to this for about six monthes....32 gb is not enough to run windows 8 and needed programs. i am storing my files elsewhere, hybernation off, system restore at min, and clean all up frequently and it seems that it needs at least 10gb to refresh image.

Okay I see. I have not tried any of that. Padget has some postings on reclaiming more free space. Try a search for w3 freespace.

That is the limit of my experience.

I tried it on my W4. I know they are different machines. but there are similarities.

Had no luck with dos at all.. not even windows 7 :/

You could try booting a windows 8 image from usb and press shift + f10 fhile in the installer. It should bring up a command prompt where you can do important stuff like mounting drives and delete files etc.

Leonid, in that case he could use uefi with win install software to partition SSD because this software is singed and validates with the chip. However if you try anthing else to boot without changing to legacy mode (which is not avalable in latest bios) it doesn't boot. I was able to boot dos on windows laptop, no problem, it doesn't have uefi bios.
