Acer s7 191 (11" Model) - Random restart problem + blotch on screen

Laptop had two issues develop both fairly recently of eachother:

Random restarts on battery mode:

The bigger of the two issues is the random restart - only on battery mode. I have updated the bios, reinstalled Acer's battery mangement tool, but other than that I have nothing to go on for a fix. System acts as if it lost power at random from any battery percentage. Battery runs down seemingly normally at times. Windows log just report a unexpected shutdown and have no clues about why.

I have read about the larger s7 having a loose middle screw on the underside which when loose can cause the shut downs. The Acer s7 191 has no middle screw though.

Blotch on screen:

I assume the screen has gone bad in this area it's about a 1.5" blotch on the screen really only visible on solid colors and more so on less screen brightness.  Probably nothing I can do about it, it's rather unfortunate for such a new laptop though.

Just curious if anyone else has these issues and if they ever got a fix working.

Cheers

    Hi WarTowels,

Ths S7-191 has a security feature that requires a specific screw on the underside to be in place and provide pressure to the battery. When this is removed the battery will stop discharging as a safety mechanism. It's intended to be safer for anyone attempting to work on the system.

I would suggest tightening all the screws on the bottom of the machine to be snug and see if that provides any relief for you this issue.

I'm not sure about the blotch on the screen, maybe you could upload an image?

    Thanks,
    Cory

    WarTowels,

Does your ultrabook actually restart for just has a black screen with the blue LED on?

Full power off, no lights on. Requires pressing power button to turn back on. Sometimes it'll happen once every few days other times its six times in a row.

I gave the laptop a bit of a jostle in the air to try and test the loose screw theory but nothing ever happens. I need to locate the correct bit before I can try to tighten them, that said they all seem tight.

I will put up a pic of the screen soon.

    Cheers

Is fan at full speed when this happens to you?

Nope, in fact I'm not sure fan has ever been at full during one of the random restarts. It does this at idle and so far doesn't show any signs of being heat related.
