and before that when I tried to restore to factory settings the screen comes up for the restoration a message appears and wont allow me to continue..NAPP_KM:NAPP8.EXE application error. This all began when my desktop icons had become explorer linked and every time I tried to open any of the programs a pop up window appeared asking if I wanted to run, save or run and save and when I chose any option it kept taking me back into that window again.. But I could though get to the programs if I need to open a document etc.. but no other way. So I thought I would restore the computer through the restoration are and beforehand I saved all of my data - photos, music videos documents and made a list of all the software that I would need to reload. So here I am with no idea what I can do next? I would appreciate any information or advice as to what I can do. NOTE: My avast security alerted me to a trojan virus threat a week before this all started, I assumed that as always it would have contained it in the quarantine area. So not sure if this is linked to the problem.

It looks like the eRecovery program has failed, possibly due to a corrupt disk sector where the program is on the disk. Check the Disk for scratches and smudges. Clean the shiny surface of the disk with a piece of soft cloth and continue the installation. If that fails then you'll have to buy recovery disks, because the eRecovery is not available as a download (due to the enormous variations between PC's).

Thank you GuruAid-CS - I wasn't trying to perform the recover from a disk.. just from the boot up etc..

But I will buy the recovery disks for sure.. and assume that they are available through the Acer Store? If not do you know where I can buy them?

I am just so glad I backed up all my bits and pieces and am learning as I go along. I am so glad I found this excellent community.. many thanks again - Cheers

Yes, the eRecovery disk is available on the Acer Store.

You can buy the disk from the following link:
    http://store.acer.com/

Click on the link above and select your location. Then click on the eRecovery link. It'll take you to a page where you'll need to put in your Serial number and then follow the on-screen instructions.
