Hi!

I tried to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version (acer support download page) but was impossible even if I followed all the required steps.

Anyone has already done it with success?!

    Hello castillofr,

What's your windows version and OS 32-64 bits?

What's the bios version you want to flash?

Good evening laurent_14, The desktop is running Windows 7 SP1 32 bits. Current BIOS version "P01-B0L" dated 05/04/2012 for Veriton M290 as shown in the BIOS menu itself. I wanted to flash the latest BIOS version "P02.A1L" but I got this error message:" Rom fle size does not match existing BIOS size". The same thing with the BIOS version "P02.A1" using windows flash procedure.

    Hello,

Your desktop works under Windows 7-32bits and you try to flash a bios for Linux (Linpus)...

For me, the correct bios is P02.A1 and not P02.A1L:

    BIOSAcerBIOS for LinuxP02.A1L1.9 MB2012/09/17Download
    BIOSAcerBIOSP02.A12.2 MB2012/09/17Download

Firstly, if your desktop works correctly it's not necessary to flash the bios.

I guess you have Intel ME (Management Engine). In this case, you can only upgrade and not downgrade.

Be careful, you'll not be able to go back.

To flash the bios with MS-DOS:

1- Make a MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive (USB key) with FlashBoot (Demo) or How to make a MS-DOS bootable flash drive

    2- Download the bios file.zip

    3- Copy AFUDOS.EXE, FLASH.BAT and P02-A1.2M on USB key.

    4- Boot on USB key.

5- When you are on MS-DOS, type the command FLASH.BAT

6- If it's flash successfully, reboot your system (normally, it reboot automatically).

7- Enter on the bios setup utility, "Load optimazed defaults".

Hi! Many thanks for your clarification. Unfortunatly, even following all your steps by booting on the USB stick and running the flash utility for the 2 versions of BIOS, I got the same error message: ROM file size does not match the existing BIOS size! I think that ACER should update the BIOS version for Veriton M290 on their servers?! Because the 2 versions are wrong (trying to flash either in DOS or in Windows).

    Hello,

"ROM file size does not match the existing BIOS size" is an issue of intel ME.

I compared the bios P01.B0 and P02.A1 and I didn't find fpt.exe. I think they forgot some files...

In this case, you can pass the information up to your Acer support.

    Besides the size is really different: P01-B0.2M --> 2048 Kb P02-A1.2M --> 2560 Kb

Most likely caused by the fact that Acer use flash memory chips of different capacity in different motherboard revisions. Perhaps, 2560KB BIOS is not compatible with the installed 2048KB BIOS. I saw that someone has installed P01.B1 BIOS version instead of P02.A2 version (post in German!)

    Hello,

You said " P01.B1 version, where?". It's not listed in the Acer bios tab.

About the motherboard, it exists 3 models for Veriton M290:

    PCB.MAIN BOARDDB.VDJC1.001MAIN BD.H61.EH61MK
    PCB.MAIN BOARDDB.VDJC1.002MAIN BD.H61.EH61MK.W/SPK

Hi! Below the post related to version 'P01.B1'. It seems that only ACER has it and did not published it. Charon13 said 'Service BIOS' sent only from ACER. My desktop has a serial starting with this reference DT.VDJEM.127 http://community.acer.com/t5/Desktop-PCs-und-All-In-One/Veriton-M290-bootet-nicht-von-RAID-Controller-3ware-9650SE-2LP/m-p/147897#U147897
