Hello Acer Users - Problem with Aspire One D270-1492

Our Aspire One D270-1492 has never worked correctly. It is now over 18 months old so unfortunately we can not have it repaired under a warranty. (Our stupidity in not moving forward quickly.) The computer turns on to only a blank screen with a white dot in the upper left corner. It stays this way for about 20 seconds and then turns black and after another short time (10-20 seconds) it returns to this same first screen. This cycle continues until you press and hold the power button to turn off the machine. We done a power reset and this has not fixed the issue - we were trying to get a Acer screen. At an earlier point in its life, this computer did open to an error screen stating that the computer closed improperly and suggesting an earlier restore point. When we tried that the computer ended up in the situation we're in now. We've tried a variety of function eyes attempting to get the computer to show something on its screen. Nothing has worked. Acer chat says thinks this is a hardware issue. We're wondering what you folks think based upon your experiences. Would a particular piece of hardware (such as the hard drive) be the logical first replacement step or are their other steps you would suggest. Thanks.

First check out the graphics adapter by trying to VGA or HDMI out to an external monitor or TV while booting up. You may have to use the Fn+F6 toggle to turn the TV screen on. Report back with results.

    Thanks

    Hi Jack E.

I hooked up an external screen and the same results show up on that screen as on the laptop.

I assume you're not seeing an Acer bios splash screen either. Try this. Power down, then power up and repeatedly tap F2 to see if you get into a bios menu screen. Report back.

Yes - no splash screen. Tried to get to bios when tapping F2. Unfortunately, still no change in computer response. Thanks.

Not good signs. No bios error beep codes either?

About all I can suggest at this point is to remove the battery, pop the keyboard, screen bezel and bottom cover to access and re-seat all the video and webcam connectors on all ends. As long as you're in there, might as well re-seat every other connector you can find and the hard drive.

Unfortunately nothing has worked for the Aspire One D270- 1492. According to a computer tech in a local store for a national computer store (Micro Center) after hia initial diagnostic he determined that this machine has a hardware defect. Since the machine never operated our logical assumption is that the machine had an initial manufacturing defect.

As I recently suggested to another Acer user with an apparently defective MB, at this point you have nothing to lose by trying a solder re-flow on speculation that it might be due to a poor or cracked solder trace on the board. Use this video for a guide on how it's done. Good luck and let us know how it works out if you decide to give it a go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu265ucL7IU
