acer w700 gpu perfomance

Hi community!

I kind of fell for the w700.

I read reviews here and there, and although cpu perfomance seems to be on the same level with other ultrabooks, gpu fells short.

It is not really that important, but I was wondering if this is something to be fixed in the future (some bios update?).

P.S.

A bonus question: Does anyone knows a good bluetooth keyboard, with a touchpad attached?

if your not a die hard gamer, i wouldnt worry about it. Do yourself a favor, get the us i3 model, it will save you some $, and game a lil better.

As far as I've seen it seems about even with the I3 model I got 3500 on 3dmark 06

Let me know if you want any game benchmarks

As far as bluetooth keyboard with trackpad I've yet to see much, however I picked up a Logitech K400 which needs a reciever but it's tiny.

It makes a difference what country you buy your i3 in. In the US the i5 and the i3 both use Ivy Bridge processesors with the same HD 4000 GPU while in most other countries the i3 uses a Sandy Bridge processor that uses the HD 3000 GPU. I assume that one would not be as good as the i5 HD 4000.

Actually i would like to see a benchmark, i5 throttling like hell and i3, both ivy, both hd4000 just to see how it would go. Also its stupid that in europe we can only have the i3 with hd3000.

    I get a score of 3774 on my i5 W700, 3Dmark 06 (default test settings).

Are your I3 the ivy or sandy bridge?

Interresting, the I3 getting better results than the I5. You using default setting for the test?

default settings. Im guessing its due to the i3 not throttling. I dont game, so to be honest, dont really care.

I didnt buy the W700 to game on either. Casual games at best.

I only got the I5 version because the I3 one sold here were sandy bridge and not 64GB only.

However, It's still a shame that the I5 performs worse than the I3. I would like these results verified though by someone else.

Not only a shame but its a disgrace, acer should be ashame of themselves that one pays more to have less quality.

Ive seen here in portugal, the few retailers that sell w700 only sell the i3 sandy bridge without accessories (charger , cloth and manual only). Ive also tried the Spanish, French, Danish, German, websites, all of them i3 sandy, but the german had the w8 pro version and the other ones didnt, also tried the uk site, until this week they only had i3 sandy but now they show the i3 sandy with accessories (craddle + keyboard) so something definitely changed.

i'm using a w700 sandy bridge i3 and everything appears to be running smooth so far. i didn't experienced the said throttling issue though. Maybe that is why Acer decided to keep using the Sandy Bridge i3 version in most countries? To prevent worldwide complaint...

The throttle issue people are refering to is the lack of Turbo Boost in the i5 version. Since the i3 runs at 1.8ghz natively and the i5 version runs at 1.7ghz when Turbo Boost is not on, some has said that the i3 version runs faster when the i5 is being throttled (Turbo Boost being limited). This throttling issue therefore doesn't exist with the i3 version.

Thanks for the replies. I am worried now. I can live without good gpu performance, but if this is related to the throttling of i5 then it's serious.

Are you claiming that i3 is faster then?

    I3 is marginally better.
