While Headphone is plugged, there is no sound heard.

Hi, My Laptop Brand is Acer

Product name is Esxtensa 5220.

My Windows system is 7 Ultimate(64Bit)

I haven't installed any Adiou driver or software associated with Audio when I installed Windows 7 because when I have look at the Offical Acer website, I didn't find any Audio drivers listed for Windows 7(64Bit).

I am now having a problem not hearing a sound while only headphone is plugged. However, I am hearing a sound via speaker.

This is screen shot below shows that Headphone is plugged to my laptop.

This screen shot below shows that the audio device is detected well in the device manager.

This is screen shot below shows the the Audio preporties.

NOTE: Headphone is working well when plugging it to another HP laptop.

Should I install an Audio driver or software associated with Audio? If so, then where can I find them?

Any comments would be highly appreciated.

As for your curiosity, I can only guess that it's a software bug or glitch that was inadvertently carried over to the language pack and is not due to a problem with your hardware. I think the Windows registry settings can be modified to conceal the Arabic display when you choose the English interface option. However, unless this bug is a major issue for you, I would NOT attempt to do so since changing the registry may create other issues that could disable your system.

Yes, but I was expecting that as long as speaker is not concealed, then once headphone is plugged, it will not also be concealed.

However, when I have checked it, I found that it was concealed, although speaker wasn't concealed.

Thus, when I have let it not be concealed, it workd well.

But also, could you please help me with why microphone is not working well? Does my Acer not use a built-in microphone or discrete microphone?

I really when trying speaking via Skype with another Skype user on another laptop, I can hear him via either speaker or headphone of my laptop, but he cannot hear me while I am speaking. He can hear other Skype users on other laptops other than me, which means that his micropone and speaker are working well . I think that I will need an internal microphone to let my voice be recieved by my laptop.

How can I be quite sure which microphone my laptop uses, built-in(internal) or external, or mixed.

Finally: Out of topic, but it is important for me, as you see in my speicfic two screen shots below, that some text desplay is shown in Arabic. This's starnge. My system's base language is Arabic. But the user interface language is now English. So, all texts should be displayed in English.

Yes, when you plug in the headphone, sometimes you have to wait a few moments for the tray headphone icon to appear(not concealed) and the speaker icon to disappear(concealed). Then the headphone should work properly.

I think your extensa 5220 should have an internal microphone. However, this system might've been upgraded from an earlier Windows version in which case the drivers may not be working properly. Please open Device Manager from Control Panel and check devices for any problem notices or warnings (either red or yellow exclamation icons). Report back with what you find.

As for the mixed language display under the English-only interface, I think you must install a language pack as an optional update to your Win7 ultimate if you haven't done so already. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-or-change-a-display-language for details.

There are no devices not detected(have exclamation marks) in the device manager at all?

When you said that that my Acer laptop has internal microphone, then should I plug in microphone in the port of microphone? IF so, then this is not an internal microphone, but it is an external microphone.
I really have tried to make a phone call via Skype with other Skype user without any microphone plugged to the port of microphone on my laptop, but if there were internal microphone, then he must have heard me.
Do you think that it is worth a try to buy external microphone and plug it to my laptop?

With regard to user-interface language, I would say I have installed a Windows 7 ultimate(64Bit), and while installing there were three languages (English, French, and Arabic), I have chosen Arabic, thus, as you see, that the three languages were installed and the Arabic is default language. Thus, when changing the user interface language into English as it is now, then all texts should have been displayed in English.
However, as you see in the left side, that almost all texts are displayed in Arabic.

Yes, I think it would be well worth your time and effort to try an external microphone! They do not cost much and it is a simple thing to try. Let us know if it works OK with Skype.

As for the language interface problem, please note that Microsoft states that---

"Language packs are available in Windows 7 Ultimate through Windows Update as optional updates. They aren't installed automatically. If you're using Windows 7 Enterprise, contact your system administrator for information about installing additional languages"

Accordingly, they are NOT INSTALLED AUTOMATICALLY during the Win7 Ultiimate installation process. You must download and install optional updates AFTER installing Win7 Ultimate..

However, as you see in these screen shots below, that 'headphone, microphone, speaker and so on are displayed in Arabic. Only the sound, keyboard, mouse, modem entries, I have seen that some texts are displayed in Arabic.

This is very strange. Is it because the default language is Arabic? But I couldn't change default language now to another language?

Yes, I understand that you have Win7 Ultimate installed.

Since you chose your base language as Arabic, you might try to change it in Control Panel to English to see if the Arabic is concealed.

However, please remember, the Microsoft website suggests that you must download and install an additional optional language pack to get the language interface working properly. Did you in fact download this additonal optional language pack from Microsoft? Or was it downloaded and installed by the person from whom you bought your new computer? I have no way of knowing if the language pack is already on your computer.

I really have been seeing the screen shots I have posted, there were 7 screen shots, if you couldn't see them, then you would never understand me at all. What should I do, they are still listed and I am seeing them.

It is impossible to change the base language since it was chosen while installing Windows 7, thus it is the default language, which will not be removed as well. If you could seen my screen shots, you would understood me

yes I can only change the user interface from Arabic into English, Thus, all menue became dispalyed in English. But, some contens on those screen shots, (Sound, keyboard, modem,) are dispalyed in Arabic.

No, I didn't install from Windows language packages updates, they were downloaded and installed by the person from whom I boght my computer. Even when I try to 'download languages from addtional optional langauge pack from MS, I really didn't see that English, French, and Arabic were listed in the from addtional optional langauge packs because they were considere installed. However, all other languages, such as German, Russian, and so on are listed there.

As I said that I really could have chosen the English from control panel's region and language to be the user interface language, and almost everything reveresed into English, except some content in the preporties of 'Sound'', (headphone, and speaker and keyboard are shown in Arabic.

I am only caurios to know why?
