What netbook model? What procedure did you use to try to re-set?

    Thanks

I have the aspire one d257. The factory reset through the e-recovery setup, where it deletes everything

OK. Did you try to do a reset due to a problem? If so, what was the problem?

So that I'm clear about this, are you saying that the original problem was that your computer suddenly failed to load windows?  And is this the reason you tried to do a factory re-set?

There was nothing wrong with my computer until after I did the factory reset. I was going to sell my laptop so I was just reset it to factory settings.

OK. Try this. At the point the factory re-set error message "Windows encountered a problem" appears, press the Alt + Home keys and see what happens. Report back with results.

    Thanks

Nothing happened. It reset itself and now say "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered error" reset computer and installation

Sorry. If you are unable to complete erecovery via the Alt+F10 startup process, you have two options. The first and by far the easiest if your time is worth anything, is to purchase a recovery stick from Acer here http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/en_US/eRecovery I'm not sure about cost but  shouldn't be too much.

The second is free but time-consuming. You can download and modify a 32-bit Win7 image that can be put on a bootstick using the Microsoft USB-DVD tool ---- however the process is somewhat complicated for Windows starter iso as you'll see here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/where-can-i-download-the-windows-7-starter-iso/3d8038f7-63fe-4ab3-a03b-d4e3fda9facc Furthermore, you will likely need to download Acer drivers specific to the d257 to make it work properly again. And finally, Microsoft must activate the OS via the serial numbers on the bottom of the netbook --- not hard to do but another complication nonetheless.

Sorry that the erecovery process outside of Windows didn't seem to work for you.
