Windows 8 Refund Program

I have recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 7 and decided to upgrade it to Windows 8. I bought the Windows 8 upgrade and then went to http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/windows-upgrade-refund to claim a refund. However, I don’t know what I’m supposed to enter when it asks for a “Windows ID” starting with WD. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a “Windows ID”; Windows Product Key and Windows Product ID are completely different and certainly do not start with WD.

Can anyone please shed light on this matter? Looking around the Internet, this seems to be a common problem with no answer. Is this deliberate to put people off claiming refunds?

Thanks.

But they MUST mean the product key on the "Certificate of Authenticity" sticker.

I couldn't find where they were asking you for that.  Maybe you can skip Acer's web site and apply directly at the Microsoft Upgrade Offer site.

    Thanks for your reply.

I did go to the Microsoft Upgrade Offer site to buy Windows 8 for £14.99 and then I went to: https://acer-windows8.customsolutions.fr/connexion_serial.php to claim the refund from Acer. The site will ask for the laptop serial number to ensure that the laptop is part of the refund offer. Once the serial number is entered and verified, you will be redirected to a page asking for original laptop receipt, Windows 8 purchase receipts and other details including this “Windows ID” field. When I click on the “?” arrow next to this field, it says that the ID starts with WD and is 10 characters long. If the text you enter in the field does not match the criteria (10 characters starting with WD), it will not let you Submit the form.
