Did you have any success? (If so... what did you do????)

I appear to have the same problem. The laptop power LED comes on but fails to boot.

Following advise on the web, I have tried the following - they may be worth you trying:

    1) connect an external monitor - no joy

    2) check the screen for any actitiy with a bright light - no apparent activity

    3) try booting from a live linux CD/DVD - disk spins but it doesn't boot.

    4) complete power cycle

        a) Switch off (holding power button for a few seconds until blue LED on power switch goes off)

        b) unplug the power supply from the laptop

        c) Remove the battery (there is a small "slider" on the base of the laptop which you can slide with the help of a pen until the battery pops out

        d) Try switching on the laptop by pressing and holding the power button for 30s - of course it will not switch on as there is no battery or external supply connected - this process is intended to ensure that any residual charge is removed

        e) replace the battery

        f) reconnect the power supply

        g) try switching it on

.... no change for me unfortunately

    5) Memory module check

        a) switch off and unplug and then carefully remove the memory module (careful on to touch the electronics as these are static sensitive) on the back of the laptop (first remove two small screws holding a plastic panel on (approx 8x8cm?)

        b) if you have two memory modules, remove one and try to switch on, if it doesn't work try the other one.

... I only have one memory module fitted, I've tried it in both slots and without the module - no joy!

    6) reload the BIOS

--- ah! now this is the interesting one! Several people on the web say this works for other Acer laptops however this needs a DOS version of the BIOS loader and this doesn't appear to be available for this laptop Smiley Sad

hope you managed to get to the GCSE work
