When i try to update the Bios i receive a "flash bios fail 0x4d0" message

I formatted the hard drive because i thought it was a software problem but now i receive another message "0x137"

Can i update the bios with another way?

The main reason because i want to update it is because every time i want to turn the laptop on, a black screen apppears.
After a few attemps the lapto can turn on and works perfectly and i think that it is a bios problem

What can i do?

It may not be a bios issue.

First, are you sometimes still able get to an Acer logo screen when you cold boot the machine? If you do, watch this video to recover your Windows OS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xoMEPfiPQ

If you don't get a logo, do you hear any beep codes when you cold boot?

It starts with black screen (the screen doesn't have any light at all).
It's not an O/S problem because it doesn't even start. I can;t see the logo. That's why i think it's a bios issue.

    | change the bios battery..first time it boot up straight away but the other times it did just the same.

    So i'm about 99% that it's a bios issue...

Whats the keyboard combination in order to start from a usb stick and install the bios?

You said a black screen EVERYTIME you power on. BUT then you said AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS, it turns on. So does the black screen happen everytime or almost everytime?

It happens 19 out of 20 times...

It worked straight away the time i pull out the bios battery...

So that's what i think tha happens...

The main reason i post in Acer forums is to ask how i can update bios away from Microsoft Windows because when i try to update it, an error occurs as i said in my first message

So i'll ask again "Is there any way to update the bios away from Windows?"

"Whats the key combination to do it?"

    Thanks

If your machine is sometimes starting without a black screen it is probably NOT a bios issue with the video graphics adapter despite what a Google search and the Low End Guru might claim. The reason I say this is that the intermittent black screen you are experiencing may be due to a broken video ribbon cable or faulty ribbon connections to the screen or MB. A simple way to test this is to connect your laptop to a TV with an HDMI cable. Then use the Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 video toggle key combinations to see if the video adapter is OK.

However, if you still want to try the bios update outside of Windows, check the bios files that you downloaded. There should be a DOS subdirectory. Inside that directory there should be files with .fd, .bat and .exe extensions. Copy those to your bootstick. Insert the bootstick, press and hold the Fn+Esc keys then press the power on button. Continue to hold the Fn+Esc keys till you see LED activity on the bootstick.

PS: You also might want to check this link out before you mess too much with the bios. A similar problem with a similar machine http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/ACER-ASPIRE-5560G-BIOS-ISSUE/m-p/222842#M36593
