Issue with Downloads

I have an Aspire V3-772G-9656 running Windows 8. I'm having issues with streaming video and downloading from certain sites. For example, I cannot download from Centos.org (any of the mirrors). I can download from a ***** but not from thesite directly. I get Error code: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE in chrome (which googling doesn't really give resolutions for...) and in Firefox I just get a connection reset message. Setting up Centos on Virtual Box poses an issue connecting tothe yum library. Now a Windows 7 VM doesn't experience the same issue.

Additionally I don't have any issues hitting the download in IE. I do not have this same issue on the Windows 7 desktop that I built a year ago. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the same popup that you get when you install a new browser (what program do you want to open the internet with? ) but I'm not 100% sure. It seems like there is a DNS issue within the browsers maybe? Any help is appreciated. I've already reset my router, I've flushed the DNS cache, I've reinstalled Chrome and Firefox. But there is this weird Acer software, snap.bo or something, that I've removed but that I think may also be an issue, as when I install Chrome or Firefox it messes with the settings.

Edit: I've also ipconfig/release ipconfig /renew ipconfig/flushdns. I feel like this may have something to do with those initial setting you setup possibly. Anyone know how to go back through and edit the initial settings (I.e. that group of 6 or so things that you turn on or off during first time use)

It's been like this since I opened the box a week ago.
