Help installing extra RAM to a M3800

Looking at previous posts I still can't find a reason why the RAM I purchased is not being accepted by my PC.

I used the Crucial scanner and purchased this product http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=FCACA251A5CA7304

After trying the old RAM and the new RAM in every possible combination in the slots I still get a single continuous startup beep with nothing coming up on screen.

Any ideas?

After contacting Crucial I got this response:

Your Acer Aspire M3800 can use parts CT1582404 which are listed on our website. This is a website part reference which is used a link parts to specific system models. The base part you would receive in this instance would be CT2KIT25664BA1339A and this would also be the part code printed on the sticker of the modules themselves.

Please check the parts you have purchased to ensure they have CT25664BA1339A on each one. My concern is that you may have purchased the part number without the A at the end, which wouldn't actually be compatible with your machine - the difference between the two is the density of the parts, which relates to the number of black DRAM chips used to make the module. The "A" part will have 16 chips on each 2GB module, while the parts without the A have 8 chips on them in total and these would not be suitable for the Aspire version you have.

Hopefully this will help anyone else with the same problem down the line.

    Hi Otherior

I too have an M3800, and like you I upgraded my RAM through Crucial. Unlike you, I've had no problems! Looking at your link, it looks as if the RAM is correct for your PC.

As you've tried each and every combination, the only thing that could be at fault are the RAM sticks themselves. Crucial's customer service is great - they'd be happy to exchange your RAM for you.

I didn't actually buy through crucial (Ebay was cheaper by far) but I shall contact the seller and hope I can get an exchange

    Ah, I see!

It might be the wrong RAM, or just faulty. Let's hope they'll exchange it for you. Crucial is more expensive, but it is the proper bit of kit!
