Is there any drivers for ubuntu for an acer aspire 5517? The computer came with windows 7 but i removed it, is there any official drivers for the computer if it is running linux? I have noticed the computer gets near over heating when i go to youtube and flash player based sites with the new system.. Is there any acer software i can use on ubuntu to control the fan speeds on the laptop?

Did you also remove the Win7 recovery partition?

The reason I ask is that have you considered running a virtual machine on a Win7 host? I'm currently running Win98SE, WinXP, and a Suse distro with VMWare's player --- now freeware. As I recently said in response to hardware problems with a Puppy installation,  I  think virtuals are a whole lot better than messing with partitions, bioses etc. I can run all of the virtuals, all at the same time on the same machine, interacting with each other thru the network. And VMWare virtuals are polished--- smoothing out many of the hardware issues that were important to me using guest instead of more traditional installations.
