Lost 2 hours of operation upgrading to Windows 8.1 for my ultrabook from ~6hrs to ~4hrs. Any thoughts? fixes? updates?

    Hi stringplay

There has been a few reports of 8.1 and battery life drainage.

Make sure that your BIOS and all drivers are up to date (IE Windows 8.1 drivers and not 8.0) - check the Acer support site for your region for the latest.

It will also be worth performing a laptop/battery reset:

Remove the charger, and with the machine switched off, remove the battery and any attached USB items. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds, then release. Insert the battery and connect the charger.

Did a driver update available through the acer support center. Unfortunately I'm still receiving only half the true value of the ~8hr battery life: ~4hrs. Since I could not remove the battery I drained it and charged it fully. This is considering the screen brightness is half and it's general uses are basically web serving, nothing intensive such as gaming or hours of video playback. At this point I'm going to roll back to windows 8 redo the process above and see if I actually receive the rated 8hrs battery life which I never saw: ~6hrs. Hopefully I can finish this before my 90day warranty on this refurb is gone. Maybe the acer community can figure this out in the mean time.

Turns out I still am getting my 8hrs of rated battery life. It seems my operational time increases as the battery status drains from 100%(4hrs) to 91%(8hrs)....? Anyone explain this situation with S7 batteries?

There seems to be some sort of problem with Win 8.1 calculating the estimated operational time. At 100% it was ~4hrs at 91% it was ~8hrs at 89% it was ~7hrs at 86% it was ~4hrs and now at 82% it is ~8:40. Anyone else have a problem with win 8.1 actually estimating operational time? I'm going to do an actual test with a timer to see how long it really lasts.

Just finished my test. Results were disappointing. Received 5hr battery life on half brightness. Usage varied from websurfing, music, documents, streaming movies/videos. That is 3hrs off the rated 8hrs the ultrabook was suppose to run at.

Very happy with everything about the S7 and the battery life is a big step up from the 2hr laptop I was using previously but I would very much like to have the 8hrs of operational time. Already sent a ticket in. I suspect that this being a refurbished product and the battery is not accessable the battery was not replaced when it was sold to me. I do hope this ends up being a simple battery replacement for the acer customer service team and nothing to do with the windows 8 or 8.1 OS. Even with the windows 8 OS still only received 6hrs.

OK. When you get it back, let us know how things are!

Yea, just got my ultrabook back and it still loses 3 hrs of battery life. Very disappointed. Also the warranty service was terrible. Initially the ultrabook wasn't registered with 90 day warranty services so it took more than a few weeks to get it through. This only happened because I called acer services, acer warranty, the 3rd party warranty services directly through phone, email, instant messaging, then phone again finally getting through to have them send the papers for shipping for repair. I am at a standstill. If anyone out there is having similar problems please converse with me.

Was reading ultrabook reviews (coincidentally the same site that convinced me to buy the S7) and apparently these ultrabooks do not reach the advertised 8 hrs of operational time even with light uses. You must buy the 1st version of the S7 which I think might be the 391 rather than the 2nd version 392. Expect only 6 hrs operational time for 392 version.
