    Hi omzart!

In your BSOD the 0x00000116 code along with atikmdag.sys usually points to a driver issue, but it may be causing a problem because of a RAM fault, Graphics chip fault, or a motherboard issue.

You can try turning off hardware acceleration, by starting up in safe mode (this should work), right clicking your desktop, select screen resolution, then click on the "Advanced Settings" option. Next click the "Troubleshoot" tab then click "Change Settings". Click the slider down to none, then click OK and restart.

If this fails, then you may like to troubleshoot your RAM. Restart your machine, then as soon as you see the Acer logo tap F8 to get to the advanced boot screen. When you see the screen, press ESC key. This will take you to Windows Boot Manager. While in the Windows Boot Manager screen, press the Tab key. With Windows Memory Diagnostics selected, press Enter. Now restart your laptop. It will boot into the memory check program. Run the Standard option. This will take a while to run. If errors are found, the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool will attempt to determine which particular memory stick in your computer is causing the errors. If that information is available, it will be stated in the results after you log on from the restart. If bad memory is found then you will need to remove and replace the bad RAM module.

You may also try to revert back to an older driver, but I think this is not likely to work!

If any of the above fails to solve the issue, then it will point to a graphics chip or motherboard issue.

Googling the problem comes up with few answers, mainly suggesting that you have some form of file corruption! It has also been suggested to re-install Windows, as sometimes a "bad install" can cause problems.

Or maybe you have a failing graphics chip...

Hi! I already reinstalled the system etc, i did a lot a stuff, and still the problem, how could i know if it is the chip that is faulty?

The "atikmdag.sys" is to do with the graphics. If you've reinstalled your system a few times and upgraded to the latest driver, and indeed tried other drivers and the problem still prevails, then it will be the chip.

If you wish to try from the recovery disks, then do so. If the problem is still there, then it can only be the chip.

ok thanks! but it's strange because when i use the laptop without drivers ( graphic ) it works fine! so i'm wondering what is the problem...

can i do a recovery dvd myself?

and can i change the chipset? thanks man

    Hi omzart

The chip may work OK occasionally, when there is little load on it - it is an intermittent fault.

You should be able to do your own recovery DVD by clicking Start>All Programs>Acer>Acer eRecovery Management. From there click on the "Create Factory Disk" (or similar) option. It usually takes 3 DVD's plus 1 disk for Drivers & Applications.

As for replacing the graphics chip, you can, but it is complicated. I'd suggest to take it in to your local PC repair store.

You may also wish to reinstall Windows again to see if it helps, but personally I don't think it would!

i v seen that my procesor have an integrated graphic i was wondering if i could use it? but it doesnt seem it was made this way because i dont see any option in bios and when i try to instal driver it says i dont have any intel graphic component.. i tried acer power management to see if there is a switch but the program doesnt show up, i see it in taskmanager but no windows..

I still think there is a problem with your graphics chip. Honestly, the best thing to do is to take it in for repair. I'm sure there is not much more you can do...

hm yeah maybe, but then if the graphic chip is faulty, then what would a repair center do? since it cant be replaced..

I have an idea! if i installed any linux distrib, with amd driver, if the chipset is faulty, it should do crash too?

It *SHOULD* be replaceable, it's just not an easy task.

A good idea about Linux. Must be worth a try!

Ok so i'll go ahead and try linux on it! if it works with proper drivers ( at full capacity and all) without crashes i'll guess the chip isnt faulty...

but if it doesnt, what kind of shop could repair it?

    thanks buddy

Try your local PC store, ideally one with a good reputation!

You're right, if a Linux distro works OK, then it may not be be the chip. Let us know how you get on!

hi i was wondering considering the hardware of this pc ( i3 5650m 4gb ) which linux should i try to be sure to test well the chip? thanks

    Hi omzart

Any version of Linux will do, they all pretty much use the same kernel. It is just "varied" by the different distros.

If the chip is at fault, then anything that is graphic intensive will cause problems.

I just want to jump in here as I haven't seen a resolution. I agree with almost everything finlux has suggested here. I just want to ask if you've tried the OEM version of Windows that came with the system? Do you continue to have issue with our load?

hi i installed ubuntu 13 it works well, even known i m not sure it used amd driver ( but the resolution is the one i would get with windows and amd drivers so... ) i havent been able to launch a game to be sure that even with a lot of work the chipset doesnt crash.

Hi acer cory, no i dont have installed windows oem that came with my computer because i didnt make the dvds and i erased the recovery partition , an acer guy told me i could buy it from you, but 60€ is not cheap at all so i prefer to find a solution  where i dont have to pay again for what i have already paid.

so regarding every evidences i have so far, i'd say that the problem is that my computer needs a very specific version of the drivers, that isnt in acer website.

thanks i will keep you update.
