V5-552-X814 unable to press certain keys at the same time

After my new V5-552-X814 arrived today, I immediately installed one of my favorite games (a shmup) only to find that keys required to be pressed in the game cannot be pressed at the same time, namely Up and Left combined with Z, X, or Shift. Strangely, Right/Up work fine while pressing other keys, but not Right/Down and Left/Up.

Is this just an unfortunate hardware decision to get a cheap keyboard (means I will just have to return this) or is something wrong with the computer?  I read about updating drivers fixing this problem on earlier Acer Laptops, but a search on the main driver update portion of Acers site shows that this laptop cannot be updated,

What version BIOS are you running? I recommend updating to BIOS v1.13 if you are not already running it, to see if it resolves your issue.

According to system information, I am running "Insyde Corp. V.2.03, 8/5/2013"

On the US driver downloads section, this computer does not show up anywhere in the searches. I just assumed that it meant that there are no new drivers for this, but I might be wrong.

I am completely satisfied with this computer other than that one nagging issue with it. I am currently dealing with it by using a program that switches which key does what and found some combinations that work, but I would rather just have a normal keyboard.

Try looking in the Ultrathin category, and selecting the V5-552. It should be listed under Ultrathin > Aspire > V5-552.

Although the BIOS did update, it did not fix the issue. The version it was updated to was 2.0.7 if that is relevant. Is there anything else to try or am I out of luck?

I am attempting to research and possibly duplicate the issue. I will make a follow up post when I have more information or troubleshooting for you to try.

Thanks! I messed around a bit with a tool to test key ghosting and it seems that if I press Left+Up+Z or Down+Right+Z, no other buttons on the entire keyboard will register including the last one pressed. On the other hand, it is possible to make a combination as long as Up+Left+Shift+X+C+M+O+K. I would just assume that it is a low quality keyboard that is ghosting, but it seems like nobody else has this issue.

Just ask if you need any more info for this.

In looking into a solution, I found this Microsoft article. I think this is the best explanation of the issue you are having.

I do not know if a repair would resolve this issue. Maybe using an external keyboard would be an ok alternative solution.
