Is there an architectural limitation on the A500 that would prevent it from running 4.1?

At some point, all systems will stop being updated with the latest version(s) of an operating system.

In the case of the A500, it was confirmed that Acer would not be pursuing an upgrade to 4.1 on that platform.

If you were to do a search on "A500 4.1" (on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo) you would likely find additional information which may be of use to you.

Why is Acer not pursuing an OS upgrade of the A500? My A500 tablet is less than 2 years old and will be stuck on Android 3.2 I suppose. For Acer to stop supporting existing A500 customers demonstrates very poor customer service. Unless this changes, I can tell you with certainty that I will never again purchase an Acer product.

the A500 has ICS which is about all that any device getting on 2 years old will get.

The only tegra 2 device that has 4.1 and that will get 4.1 as far as I know is the motorola zoom but thats because google owns them now. This isn't just acer, it's all companies.

Also, I've used jellybean, it isn't anything special, 4.0 was the last update that really mattered at all.

Regardless, still poor service. That should not be the acceptable norm by Acer or others.

I can't say whether or not how bad it is but just don't blame acer themselves. This is the reason people get the google nexus line.

My point exactly. Poor customer service leads to alternate consumer choices, regardless of the product. I hope Acer is listening.

No, there is no limit. If you want to go experiment with xda-developers.com or tegraowners.com, then you can find JB roms which are in development for A500/A501. Just expect these to be unsupported by acer, and very tricky if things go wrong.
