Hello,

I have had issues with Bluetooth and Windows 8.1 on two Aspire V5-573G laptops.

Windows 8.0 and Bluetooth mouse and headset work perfectly, as expected.

Wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1

Laptop #1

1) Using the laptops SNID, obtained bios update and updated the bios Bios to "BIOS     Acer     BIOS     2.24     3.4 MB     2013/11/18"

2) Installed all Windows updates, installed all Metro updates, installed Windows 8.1

3) Installed Windows 8.1 drives from Acer site, including "Bluetooth_Atheros_8.0.1.305_W81x64_A.zip" and "Wireless LAN_Atheros_10.0.0.263_W81x64_A.zip"

4) Attached Bluetooth mouse and headset (which had been tested to work on a Toshiba M400 upgraded to Windows 8.1)

I noticed that when there was wireless LAN traffic (loading web pages or downloading files), the mouse would not work, when the Wireless LAN traffic stopped the mouse worked again.

I also found that the headset and sometimes the mouse could not be re-connected after a power off, power on. I had to re-pair the devices each time the laptop was powered back on.

I rolled back to Windows 8.0 and tried with another Windows 8.1 installation, same result. After rolling back three times I gave up trying to install Windows 8.1 as Bluetooth works in Windows 8.0

Laptop #2,

1) attached bluetooth Mouse and Headset, both worked correctly.

2) Installed all Windows updates, installed all Metro updates, installed Windows 8.1

3) Windows 8.1 update failed with "Sorry, we couldn't complete the upgrade to Windows 8.1" and gave error "0xC1900101-0x30018"

We tried again twice but every time the same result.

Once we also got an error measage "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION"

I believe the Windows 8.1 drivers for the Atheros hardware are faulty and need to be updated.

I also noticed that when I clicked on the bluetooth icon in the System tray and selected Add bluetooth device, it took me into PC Settings but hung trying to acces "Bluetooth", it also hung if I manually attempted to select Bluetooth from the PC Settings menu.

Has anyone actually managed to get a V5-573G working with Bluetooth under Windows 8.1 ? Or has had similar issues.

Did you check the Acer website to see if they have an 8.1 Wifi/Bluetooth driver? You may need to wait for a driver, or wait until 8.1 has been updated, since some people still report device incompatibility.

I did check the Acer web site, and yes they have a Windows 8.1 driver, but it seems to be faulty as Bluetooth audio as tested with the Rapoo headset fails.

I tested with another Aspire V5-573G Windows 8.1 laptop and on it too Bluetooth Audio failes.

I will indeed have to wait for decent Windows 8.1 drivers or as I am currently doing, stay on Windows 8.0
