Ethernet for A1 810

I know that the android 4.2.2 can control a usb to ethernet adaptor with the possibility to set the static ip address and all the parameters of an ipv4 connection. The current kernel version of the iconia A1810 doesn't support this. How to do it?

I know that it is possible by building a usbnet.ko and asix.ko if you have a asix USB to ethernet adapter. I have managed to build the 2 files but I'm not able to install them onto the tablet. I guess because I built them based on the wrong version of Ubuntu and/or Android_Toolchains.

Have any body idea on which version of Ubuntu and Toolchains the kernel was build on or how I can build a driver for A1-810?

Can Acer include some USB to ethernet drivers in the next release?

Unfortunately I don't know which version of ubuntu and toolchains was used to buid the kernel. If you have some news on that please post it. At the moment I can only hope that acer will implement this feature in the next release as other pretty low cost brands actually have ( mediacom - archos).

I managed to build and install driver for the ASIX but not all apps can use it properly. Some of the issues I found:

    • Does not work with a secured network.
    • Internet app and app store can connect and use the internet but can not download files.
    • ES browser seems to work OK and can see and copy files across network.
    • MX Player can not play files via network but XBMC can.

I guess I need to do a little more manual settings on the tablet before it can work properly.

To be able to install and use the driver you need to root the tablet and do a little manual work every time you want to use the Ethernet but that can be solved with a little app.

Hi there, I've just bought an a1-810 and would love to be able to connect it via ethernet. It seems you've had some success ... are you able to please share with me how you did it?  I'm fairly good on the tech stuff but new to Android.  Thanks heaps!

    Hi,

I'm glad you are also interested because I'm still not able to make it work all the way through.

    Just to make it clear.

The driver is only for USB to Ethernet adapter with ASIX chipset. Mine is AX88772B.

To be able to install the driver you need:

    • Root your tablet. Note that you will probably lose your warranty and can not receive new updates from acer.
    • Have SuperSU installed
    • Terminal Emulator installed for copying files and executing linux commands for installing the driver.

If you still want to try I will send you the driver files and explain how to install them.

    Cheers!

    Hi Nccong,

I have just read your posts regarding configuring the A1-810 to support usb to ethernet, I have a plugable usb ethernet which appears to be the same as yours.

I was wondering if by any chance I could make use of your hard work and have a copy of the neccessary files?

    Would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Terry
