Acer C710 chromebook Unboxing disaster

Gotta love the  Chromebook 710.  Opened the box, inserted battery, went through menus to log on with Google, then it wanted to do an update.  After the update, the device locked up and a reset did not help.  Chatted with Acer Supprt - was immediately told to send it in for repair.  Had the dang thing for 45 minutes and am being told to mail it away to Acer  and no doubt it will be several weeks without the device.  I am trying a USB install of the OS (they never mentioned that).  If I have to send it in, They better send me refund for shipping!

I just had the same thing happen to mine today, but I have had it for a few months.  This seems to be a common theme with the Acer 710 and the newest Chrome update (based on what I have been reading).

I did the USB recovery and it is booting up now.  I lost all of my personal data, but luckily I save just about everything to Google Drive and nothing important locally.

Here is the link customer service sent me:

Can we get an official answer or repsonse from Acer on this problem?
