[SOLVED] W511 + Windows 8.1 = No HDMI

Anyone have this problem?

I have tried the method mentioned in other thread but HDMI still says no signal.

Installed all updates up until now,

installed 3.02 driver.

tried all options in Win + P menu but still no luck

also, "project to second screen only" crashed the display driver

Any idea?

It used to work on win 8

It's not cable / TV problem because i'm using the same TV & cable and it worked with win 8..

HDMI is kinda important for my job, if i knew i wouldn't upgrade it to 8.1 Smiley Sad
Anyway to revert back to 8.0?

@Acer technician :
Could you provide us with older driver version so i can downgrade and test if any of them would work?

I googled but can't find it...

Did you load the Acer drivers for 8.1 ? They are different from 8 and can download from support.acer.com. (See you said 3.02 and the "3."s are 8.1 but please doublecheck). Which Intel display adapter driver do you have now ? (I've seen a Microsoft driver get loaded, don't know why it happens but HDMI doesn't work).

    Well that's strange

i thought it's the same 3.02 driver that i got from other thread,

it says i have same or newer version, but i installed it anyway,

Suddenly the hdmi works Smiley Very Happy, i guess this version is newer

Thanks i'll mark this as solved

Aw man now the sound isnt working, any known solution?

I checked in Control Panel > Sound > Playback and there was no HDMI related option

Edit : I think i screwed it up here..

After installing the driver update, i install the BIOS update that is found on that page.

Now the HDMI isn't working again Smiley Sad

I tried reinstalling the drivers but it still won't work...

Any idea what exactly is stopping is from working?

Edit : Well it's really strange, it's working after i plug and unplug several times

So now it's just the audio...

What is the MFR & number of the driver you have for the Display Adapter (is in Device Manager) ?

For sound, go to Control Panel > Sound and make sure it is going to the right output.

    Driver version is 9.14.1102

    I can't find MFR number...

Under control panel > Sound, on playback tab i can only find

    Speakers

    Intel SST Audio Device

    Default Device

Well that is part of your problem, the Intel Graphic Adapter Driver in mine is 9.14.3.1176, I have seen .1102 before and know it is rong for 8.1.

On the sound issue, did you try changing the default ? There should be a tab marked "Sounds" that allows you to TEST varios ones. I'd select the first, Asterict, and hit test and chage the default until you hear sometine (may need to raise the volume). Make sure you are not on "Mute".

Hmm thats strange cause i just installed the latest version from Acer's website

So where can i find this .1176?

The test button on the Sounds tab is greyed out..

Edit : Ok it's already .1176. turns out it's from windows update..

    But there's still no sound

In my exprience when there is no sound

    1) no input

    2) muted/volume too low

    3) wrong output selected

    4) External speaker not plugged in or in wrong plug

    5) bad cable (external speakers)

    6) external speakers not turned on

    7) catch 22.

Go to http://support.acer.com, select your country, scroll to Drivers and Manuals then enter W511 in the Search by Product Model block then scroll down to the drivers & download the latest (currently 3.01 for Win 8, 3.02 for 8.1).
