ICONIA W510 Restoring original factory setiings

I could not solve the problem with my faulty USB port on the keyboard dock, so before I bring the unit to the service workshop for hardware repair, I want to restore the computer in its original state and check if it's a driver problem. However I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 and all updates (including firmware) are already installed.

QUESTION: Am I going to lose forever all upgardes and updates? How can I obtain them after restoring the factory setting?

You would need to use a backup program to take a full disk image of the drive to preserve what you have exactly. It might require booting from a USB or CD though.

I used to use a program called Ghost to do that sort of thing but apparently Symantec has replaced it with something else.

Thank you for your reply. I've found that Windows 8 has preserved Windows 7's Backup and Restore. I've tried it on Windows 7 and it works like Ghost: you can completely restore the whole environment. But I haven't tried it on Windows 8.1. Another thing is that I have 2 restore options: to refresh the tablet without affecting my files and completely reinstall Windows. The uestion here is: which Windows will be refreshed or reinstalled: the original 8.0 or the upgraded 8.1?
