Acer Liquid E2 (DUO) processor lock and heating up!

hi to everybody reading this topic!

my problem started 2 or 3 days after I bought the Liquid E2 Duo. sometimes it's heating up near the back camera and the processor is going nuts... with any app that you can read the processor's datas all the cores are at maximum frequency and the CPU load varies from 65% up to 96-98%... (I must mention that the phone gets laggy when this is happening)...

this sometimes happens after playing games (I had FIFA 14 installed and the phone was heating up. so FIFA it's a big game, but the phone was sometimes heating up after playing Flick Shot which is a small game in comparison to other and should run smooth in any condition) but sometimes the phone goes nuts when small apps like Chrome or Facebook are opened with a very good WiFi signal ...

anybody has any solving problem for me? thanks anyway

Did you update to the latest rom version?

BTW it's not a normal behaviour to have the cpu usage so high.

Maybe a factory reset can help to understand if any user installed apps can be the problem.

I didn't updated the ROM because, to be honest, I am not 100% percent sure how to do it... if I do that, I lose the warranty? because another option would be sending the phone to the service mentioned in the contract...

I think a process or something like that makes the cpu go high, because if I restart the phone it goes back to normal

Updating your device will keep the warranty if you download it byt OTA or on acer website.

    rom version on your device?

    it's 1.005.00 on my E2

I saw on other topics that 1.032 came out... but I'm not sure how to update

You can download the update 1.023 from the acer website and update with a microSD memory.

It's very easy, just follow the instruction.

Just pay attention to the rom version to download:
    GEN
    CUS
    CSM

The one i have installed is EMEA_CSM

The one i downloaded is WW_GEN1

Can i install that one? And i`ve seen that the phone already has recovery mode.. do i need to root it?

Nope you can't use the GEN1 over EMEA_CSM.
And you don't need to root to update.

It's better if you check updates by OTA:

    Settings/About phone/system updates

I checked there but there are no updates...

I don't want to look smarter than you, but if it wouldn't be good for my device (I know for sure that it's for the Liquid E2 DUO version), why would it be there?

Simply you can't mix GEN with CUS or CSM, different uodates for different world regions.

You can try if you want but update will simply fail.

I found a topic on a forum from my country (BTW it's Romania) in which a person sad that he updated the phone (which had CSM version) with the GEN version from the site and it worked... any other solutions?

and can I restore to the original ROM without rooting if the phone is damaged with the GEN version?

It's very strange that he updated CSM to GEN with the sd update from acer website but since i can't try it i can't confirm or deny at 100%.
General rules on updating say that you can update mixing different region.

Maybe he used an external tool to do it and to switch back to CSM you need a CSM room to download

I tried twice with the one on the site and it didn't worked ... maybe I didn't do something in a correct way or I don't know...

do you have any other suggestion for my problem?

I double checked and with the official update, you can't change from CSM to GEN1, so you did it right.

my other suggestion is to do a factory reset to your E2 and see if this fix the CPU problem.

    settings/backup & reset/factory data reset

this will erase all your data on the E2

if this doesn't fix the CPU problem, you need to contact your network operator, since CSM roms are operator custom roms and must ask them about warranty repair.

Factory reset its not an option.... i tried it from the settingd menu, and from the boot screen as well... nothing changed, so i will go with the phone to the shop ive bought it from and see what they say about it... i noticed that these acer models have a lot more “bugs“ than the other

Thanks a lot for your help, IronFly

    IronFly :

I'm the one who changed the ROM from CSM to GEN, and i've used a flashing tool.

    @HoustonVal:
I know that tool but it's not an official Acer tool.

    Hi guys!

I've sent my Acer to service on 13 of January 2014 and  it came back yesterday (20 January 2014)... I took it back and read on the service paper I received with the phone and I understood from there that they have re-installed the original (stock) ROM version, cleaned a few apps, etc.

Today when I came back from school, I turned the WiFi on and the problem re-appeared... after that I turned the WiFi off  the processor came to normal after 1-2 minutes..I've repeated this process with Wifi ON and OFF a few times and the same result: the problem appears when connected to WiFi...

Should I send the phone back to service? I ask you because I don't know how to tell them what's the exact problem with the phone...

(and sorry for bothering you again with my problem)

Just to understand, did you have your phone with mobile data connection always ON?
