Several sites are repeating a Slashgear report pegging the release of the W4 (interestingly, the 64GB version first, followed by the 32GB version at a later date) for the end of January.  There's also a spiffy YouTube promo that Acer posted a couple of weeks ago for the W4.  (I really like the origami-style cases demoed in the video, although I'm not sure how practical/durable they will be for the long run.)  Maybe it's not dead yet but just really late.

SlashGear: "These ports include a microUSB port for charging". This seems to be common to the 8" Bay Trail devices (Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba) and is both a BIG mistake and an opportunity.

The mistake is that most of the time whan I use the W3 as a workstation, or for entertainment, or in a car there are USB accessories added. In each case with the W3 or W510 it is easy to charge and have accessories connected since the ports are seperate.

The way Bay Trail devices I've seen are designed, if the unit is charging the USB port cannot be used for data. Since anytime used to play a BluRay movie or as a workstation or as a Sat-Nav in a car you may need to sharge at the same time.

Now I am looking into building a special hub that can be used for both but since it requires a switch, cutting traces, and adding a resistor it is not for the average user.

So the opportunity if for Acer to provide and possibly sell as an accessory a special cable or hub (could replace the switch with a transisor circuit) that can both charge and be used as a USB port simultaneously.

For people who can't wait until January (or whenever the W4 actually becomes available, assuming it does) and who don't need the HDMI output, Microsoft stores are offering the Dell Venue 8 Pro for $100 on Monday, 9 December.  That's not a typo, but only the first 20 units sold or within the first hour after the store opens will go for that price; the next 10 will go for $200.  (It's also only at "select" stores, so call ahead before you set up camp outside the store entrance.)

When is it coming to Thailand.  Or are there any options where I can buy it online?
