UEFI Bios Flash

How do I flash the UEFI bios for my Aspire V3 771G 9809 laptop from V2.13 to V2.23? I am getting a "invalid firmware image" error when I tried to flash from Windows 8. I must be doing something wrong. You used to have to boot to DOS and run a flash program. Do I have the same thing here? If I need another boot program, what is it and where do I get it? Do I have to boot to another program and then run the flash EXE?

Thanks for your help.

    Rich,

We design all of our UEFI (which is the replacement for the older "BIOS") to update within Windows. A restart may be required, but you no longer have to boot into a DOS environment.

Could you open your charms bar and search for 'msinfo32' and open it? Once there, under the default System Summary tab you should see two fields of interest:

    BIOS Version/Date

    SMBIOS Version

Could you provide both of those here?

P.S. It may be worth it to also quickly try and redownload the file off of the acer website and make sure you extract it before you run it.

I have downloaded it several times with no luck.

    Per your request.

    BIOS Version/Date Insyde Corp. V2.13, 11/13/2012
    SMBIOS Version 2.7

    Thanks

I'm not seeing any other issues with users upgrading to 2.23 and our test machine updated from 2.17 to 2.23 without an issue.

Just to ask some of the simpler questions...What OS are you attempting to run this off of (is it the OEM version of Windows that came with the unit)?

Where is this error appearing? Is it right when you run the executable? Also, make sure you actually extract the folder prior to running the file.

I am using the OEM version of Win 8 that came with the laptop. The error is appearing after I have applied the update. It goes blank and restarts and then gives me the error "invalid firmware image". Then I have to hit any key to reset the bios. After this happened the first time my laptop will not automatically shutdown. I have to manually shut it down. I have backed up all ofthe partitions including the hidden ones with Acronis True Image S/W, added a second hard drive and a wireless mouse transceiver to the USB port if that matters. I have removed the HDD and mouse transceiver before applying the bios update and it still gives me the error message. I used to have to boot from another OS and run a program to update the bios. But you had indicated that you don't have to now. You can run directly from Win8. I am really at at loss to figure what is wrong. It almost looks like the update bios is incorrect for this laptop. Is that possible?

I have downloaded the version 2.23 from the Acer web site based on my laptop configuration several times. I have extracted the downloaded file by winwar and win8 and run the exe file (main and extracted one). All apps are shutdown and the window comes up that explains what to do before you say OK. After I click on OK it shuts down the OS and goes black for a couple of seconds and then comes back and gives the error and I have to reset as I said above. I really would like to get this resolved soon so the laptop shutdown automaclly and be able to update in the future.

Since I do not know all about UEFI bios, it is hard to figure out what is the problem. Is the problem on the chip or on the hard drive? I have tried to update from the second hard drive (win7) and it did the same thing. So I am at a loss as to what the problem is. Do I need to reapply V2.13 again? What could be odd about my laptop that would cause this error? What is the bios update looking for that does not match the update? Look at my case numbers 307*** and 307*** by Josh for any other info.

Boy I sure want to get this fixed!

    Thanks for all your help!

    Rich,

I can't find any reason why you're not able to upgrade the BIOS. We have no other reports of failures to 2.23. I'd have to recommend contacting service at this point and potentially looking at service to get the issue resolved.

    Thanks,

    Cory,

Do we know what the error message "invalid firmware image" means? I can not find that answer any where. We need to check the hardware requirements in V2.13 and V2.23 and see what hardware is required. My SNID is ****. Can you check and see if there is something different? Does backing up the UEFI partition on the hard drive with Acronis True Image change anything on the UEFI information? There has to be a logical reason for this. Can you send me V2.13 so I can re-flash? Can I send you a Belarc Advisor report so you can check the hardware on my laptop? If so where do I send it?

Thanks again for all your help

    Rich,

I haven't been able to locate anything that would explain the trouble you're having. I'm sure there's a logical explination, and I'm sure there is a solution, but I don't have it available. I'm certain that our service centers would do what was neccessary to get the machine back into working condition (they'll use their tools to update the BIOS etc...)

I apologize I can't be of more help here, but I think our support team would be able to provide the quickest solution at this point.

Hi, I want to ask that is there any way to flash bios with 2.3 version not upgrade.

I would like to re-flash if I had V2.13 that would be great, but I do not have it. It was on the laptop and I can't find it any where. I do not know of a V2.3. The highest that I have seen it V2.28. Please let me know if you or anyone else has V2.13 so I can get it and re-flash. I am waiting for Acer to correct all the UEFI bios versions so I can update my laptop. It has been 2 weeks and no word. I have an Aspire V3-771G-9809 with an Nvida Geforce GT with 2 gig of DDR5 ram, 8 Gig of DDR3 1600 ram, and an I73632QM CPU. Some how this machine was updated and the new hardware data was not added to the UEFI bioses after V2.13 and that is why I get the error message "invalid firmware image".

    Thanks for your help.
