Hello All,

I am trying to upgrade the memory on my Acer computer. The computer has a Acer G43/G45 Mother Board v1.1. It runs at 1333 FSB and has 4 DDR3 memory slots. I have tried installing G. Skill memory with the following specs:

  • DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
  • Timing 9-9-9-24
  • Cas Latency 9
  • Voltage 1.5V

However, the system fails to boot. Just gives one long beep/buzz and no POST on powr up. any body know what type of memory works with this motherboard?

Thanks.

    Hi ShadowLord!

The best thing to do is to put the original memory back in, and run Crucial's memory scanner. This will tell you the EXACT memory needed for your PC and make recommendations for you. The link I've provided is for the UK  site, but you can change it to your country by clicking the flag in the top right corner!

I'd return the other memory back either for a refund or to exchange it for the right type (based on Crucial's scanner result).

    Hi,

Thanks for the advice. But I had already checked crucial and according to them the specs of the memory I bought matches what this machine needs. However, the memory still does not work. I was wondering if anyone has successfully used a particular brans/model of memory with this computer. Problem with OEM computers is that they are extremly hard to service/part outside of the factory (for example this coputer has had no BIOS updates and does not even havea real manual on the ACER site).

To be fair, Acer OEM's are fully upgradeable! I too have an Aspire M3800 - the reason that there is no BIOS upgrade is because the supplied BIOS is perfectly fine. You don't need a new BIOS, if the one supplied is OK. BIOS updates are for improvements or bugs found. Smiley Happy

With regards to your RAM, I can only presume the RAM you have is faulty - ask your supplier for an exchange.

No they are not. Acer does not really publish the specs on their boards and the BIOS does not allow for any tweaking (I am not talking overclocking but say minute voltage adjustments for picky HW, fan speeds, etc.). As another example have you tried switching out the CPU? You have to pry off the fan base off the board (it is glued on) to put on a new CPU and fan.  They are built to be cheap and disposable. Which is too bad as this motherboard actually has a pretty decent feature set for a microATX board (4 RAM slots, PCI-E 2.1, DDR3, etc.).

As for the memory this is my second set of memory (already did an exchange) and I am getting the same problem. The board does not like the memory which makes no sense what so ever. It meets the specs and is 1.5V (unlike other memory which may need to be run at a higher voltage to be stable).

Then we'll agree to disagree then. Smiley Happy

I have upgrade many OEM PC's over the years, and not just Acer. The parts used inside of an Acer are available from the usual sources. My motherboard for example is an EG43M - which is basically a Gigabyte model.

As for your RAM, there is no reason for the correct memory not to work....

This MB is a rebadged ECS. If you search for "acer g45t" on ebay you will see it. Like I said great little mobo with good features (HW wise) but limited in what you can do with it secondary to the BIOS. A full featured BIOS on this MB would make a killer product!

I got the MB runnig OCZ ram at 1066 - very stable but of course it is not at 1333 and I only have 2gigs of the OCZ ram. I will mess with the G. Skill memory some more but it will probably go back tomorrow.... I am out return shipping x 2 so lesson learned.
