I replaced the hard drive in my Acer 5742Z laptop, and purchased the restore disks from Acer.   I choose to restore the computer to factory settings,  and install the disks, after the computer finishes it ejects the disk and reboots and says "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key"   What boot disk?

Maybe drive isn't selected in Boot menu of Bios. Have you tried going into Bios <press F2> select Boot and pick harddrive.

Yes hard drive is listed as the first boot device.

Maybe you could use a live Linux CD to see if the Acer Restore disks restored your hard drive to factory settings. Maybe the HD is still blank.

I would try and use a live CD to see if there is a C drive and Acer partitions.
