Aspire S7-391 low resolution after Windows 8.1 update

I have an Aspire S7-391, which Acer lists as supporting Windows 8.1, but after updating through the windows store, my screen is no longer in high definition. When I check the screen resolution through the control panel, it says that it is 1920 x 1080 as it should be, but everything on the desktop is too big, and all the window frames are slightly blurry, as if it's being displayed at 800 x 600.

I've tried uninstalling the graphics drivers and installing the ones from the acer driver site, but they don't change anything. Other issues have popped up as well, like the track pad and touch screen problems that have already been posted on the forum, and I've been able to mostly resolve those. However, this resolution thing has me stumped.

Has anyone else encountered this? Have you been able to fix it?

Go into screen resolution, then click "make text and other items larger or smaller". I have mine set at 125%. See if that helps.

That makes the text and icons a little better, but it doesn't change the fact that the screen isn't in HD. You can tell because the window frames are blurry and look like they've been blown up. Has anyone else had any problems updating their video card driver?

On the display menu what is your change only text size set to,screenhelp.jpg etc.? I have all mine set to 11 or 9.

I have the same settings as the picture you posted, but I'd like to clarify that the text is not the problem. The problem is more than just small or big text. For whatever reason, it seems like the video card driver isn't working right. I can adjust the desktop mode to look more similar to what it was before the update, but it's not the same HD resolution. On the start screen, there are two less rows than there were before (and I do know you can change that manually in the settings). The problem is that I shouldn't have to change those settings. I've also installed windows 8.1 on my desktop machine which has a monitor that is the same resolution as the aspire S7's screen. The desktop did not default to a 1990's resolution, so why should the laptop?

Just curious, What happens when you hook your S7 to the external monitor?
