I was told by Best Buy Geek that I needed 10600 memory, not 10666. Tag on palm rest reads 1066 Mhz FSB

What are the memory specs needed to upgrade to 8Gb? I know I need 2-4Gb sticks (memory kit 4x2).

Laptop Aspire model 5740-6378 Win 7 Home 64 bit (16 Mb max mem allowed by Win 7 64 bit OS).

Thank you.

Why are you going to Best Buy?

You could run the Crucial.com system scanner to check for sure for your specific 5740 machine. It appears to max out at 8GB. DDR3 PC3-10600 nonECC unbuffered 204-pin. There are also 1.35V and 1.5V versions of this RAM. I would check to see what your original RAM is. If it is 1.5V you may be better off keeping it that way.

This Crucial set should work fine.
