Booting a W510 from a USB flash drive created using the Windows 8 Recovery Drive dialog

I used the Recovery Drive dialog in Windows 8 Control Panel to create a bootable flash drive, then changed the BIOS boot device sequence on my W510 to look first at the USB flash drive and then at the system drive.  This all worked well until the boot process from the flash drive began by bringing up a screen asking me which keyboard language I wanted to use.  All forms of input appear to be non-functional at that point:  the touch screen does not work, the keyboard does not work, and the touchpad does not work.  Also, there is no cursor on the screen.  How do I get past this screen to continue the boot process?  Is there some additional, undocumented step I need to perform in creating the supposedly bootable flash drive?

(When I booted up the system using the system drive and looked at the contents of the flash drive, what's there appears to be a valid, readable file structure, though of course I don't know what the contents are supposed to be.)

You need to connect an external keyboard or an external mouse directly on the tablet with the mini usb - usb adaptator i think.

Should just need a USB mouse. So far it looks like the only way to create a flash drive recognizable by the boot is to use Window 8 to create a recovery drive.

Problem is that when I tried this it got to a point of asking for another disk and all three of the DVDs gave "invalid media".

I have not yet tried but might work:

    1) use windows to create recovery flash drive (search>apps>recovery)

    2) copy to contents of the three DVDs onto the drive (all will fit in 8 GB)

    3) boot from that.

I am feeling more like an alpha tester here than beta. Usually I get paid for this but have a few days off to play.
