Acer Iconia W3 BIOS update not working

Hi,

I have downloaded the new 1.07 BIOS from Acer Support, but when I run the file inside, nothing happens. When I restart the device after this, it starts doing something, but almost immediately tells me it needs to reboot, and nothing happens. My BIOS version is still 1.02, not 1.07.

How do I actually use this?

Thanks.

maybe try doing incremental updates to 1.03/4/5 first then to 1.07?  make sure to wait it out and let it do its thing when the update is happening though. you don't want to 'brick' it by interrupting the process.

Mine have just worked after update to 1.06. I also have found some logs on "C:\Windows\Logs\Battery....log" that help me to understand what was going on. I hope it help you too.

Hi Folks, I had same problem with BIOS not updating, and battery stopped charging.

    My steps:

    1. Updated Windows 8 entirely, there were 70+ updates

    2. Updated Acer Windows 8 drivers

    3. In BIOS, reset all security settings

    4. Disable FTPM

    5. Upgraded one at a time from 1.03 to 1.07

    Now my battery works fine.

I can't say which of these steps was crtical, but I tried alot of other stuff and these sequence worked for me.

I may still take this unit back, but it is appealing that it has HDMI port and separate charging port versus the Dell Venue, albeit the Acer screen is OK versus IPS.

    Hope this helps,

    Barry

I wanted to add one more thing; I forgot to mention that I had to manually run the battery update driver which is located in a subfolder of the BIOS 1.07 folders (it is easy to see).

Without this, the battery still did not charge.

It charged in about 4 hours which is not bad, I suspect it was really dead so curious to see how fast it will charge next round.

I hooked up a USB LCD monitor to it and KB, pretty sweet!

Awesome write up barryc.  Where exactly is the battery update driver?  I didn't see any additional files in the bios 1.07 directory.  Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi,

I have the Acer Iconia W3-810 and the battery shows at 100% Not Charging.  But as soon as I remove power the unit shut off.

I have updated all drivers.  I an=m at BIOS 1.02.  I have tried to update BIOS to 1.07.  Rbuns but nothing changes.  I tried 1.03, 1.04, 1.05.  All same result.

I have tried running at CMD prompt with Admin authority.

    Help is appreciated.
