I have the same problem , my w500 loss power at boot up, and thescree remains black, windows light on but nothing else, no beeps at power up, how ever the processors or giving off heat. I believe the firmware need to be replaced.

disconnect ribbon connecting lcd to motherboard and reconnect I solved the issue by buying an acer w500 bios chip off a german vendor fro ebay for 23 canadian with shipping. I snipped off the old bios chip and soldereed in the new one with a basic 25 watt iron, use non acid flux. The tablet came back to life within 10 minutes. I made the mistake of insatlling win 8.1 WITHOUIT its SYSTEM RESERVE partition and put Linux mint on also and somehow the bootloader on one or both OS got botched or something went zonk in the bios chip anyways its working fine for the past month...I put Windows 8 pro now check out this acer google group discussing the black screen issues with many owners, I'm 95namor http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/issues/detail?can=2&start=0&num=100&q=&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Priority%20Milestone%20Owner%20Summary&groupby=&sort=&id=589

if your to take it apart re-attach the ribbon cable from the led-lcd screen to the wifi card circuit board....worst case scenario is to buy a programmed w500 bios chip and replace/ solder it in.

make sure that your windows os is installed with the small 350 MB SYSTEM RESERVE partition
