Acer Aspire S7 Sleep problems

I am having problems with sleep functionality on my new Acer Aspire S7.  I am running Windows 8.1.

When I close the lid, it normally just goes to sleep, but sometimes when I open the lid the screen remains black.  If I close the lid again and open it, sometimes it wakes up but other times it starts a fresh boot and I have to log into Windows again (feeling like it crashed).  This happens frequently enough that it is extremely frustrating.  I cannot rely on having any open documents.

Is this a known issue?  Is there an updated driver that I should look at installing?  I already tried disabling hybernation and hybrid sleep modes.

Did it work properly under Windows 8?

It's possible that something during the upgrade to Windows 8.1 is causing an issue.

Any available drivers will be available on our Drivers site.

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it works:

    a. Open Device Manager

Windows 7: By clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.

Windows 8: Press and hold the Windows logo key and X key ---> Select Device Manager.

If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    b. In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to allow for waking your computer, and then double-click the device name.

    c. Click the Power Management tab and then click the “Allow this device to wake the computer” check box.

    d. Click OK

What device in device manager would I use for 'the lid'?

I don't know if the machine worked with Windows 8.  I need to use Enterprise edition so that I can get access to my corporate network, so I installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition using an advanced install and paving over the existing Acer installation.

Please review this article: Installing a different Operating System

Enterprise edition is not supported by Acer.

You would need to seek assistance from Microsoft or your IT department.

I updated with some of the newer Windows 8.1 drivers and the problem seems to have gone away.  I think it was the video drivers.

I have the same problem, running Windows 8.1, and couldn't get it to work even though I updated most drivers. My problem appears when the screen goes to sleep, and it won't come on after this, even though it appears that the computer is on and you can "use" it.

    What can I do?

I am having the same problem.  It is even worse when the computer is left on with the screen up and it goes into sleep or hibernation mode.  This is when it is harder to get back.  I have had to turn the computer over and press the battery reset button a couple times now.

I am on windows 8.1 as well, what can be done?

remove (leave) homegroup.  if you have intel rapid start running, turn it off.  hope this helps.

Mine is doing the same thing and yes, it's since the update to 8.1. I have to reboot the system to wake it up.

I have the same problem here, and anyone else that I know who owns an S7 has this problem.

The problem did not exist before Windows 8.1. Also, this has nothing to do with Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition. The Home Premium users suffer the problem as well. None of the driver updates have helped so far.

I have tried almost everything I could such as tweaking sleep settings. This is almost certainly an Acer issue and I hope Acer will release a driver update sometime soon.

It sounds like you've isolated the issue to Windows 8.1.

At the present time, I can only recommend restoring the system to the shipping operating system where the desired function is working as intended.

This does NOT solve the problem. I have updated all drivers and am continuing to have issues with waking the computer from sleep. Please check into this and figure out what driver needs to be updated for the S7-392 to function while running windows 8.1, and then let this community know, please.

I am having the exact same issue. The problem is especially severe when the screen goes to sleep with the lid open. I am also on the S7-392 with Windows 8.1. A solution to the problem would be greatly appreciated.

So my issue is a little different than the rest. My computer doesn't seem to have that crashing issue, but when it wakes up from sleep mode my screen resolution changes and my task bar becomes shrunken in size. I have to change my screen resolution to something else and then change it back to correct the issue, or just reboot it. I attached to links to the images from my dopbox to show what I mean.

I have installed all the latest drivers. Tried intels versions as well. It was working fine until windows 8.1. This is my second S7. I should have taken the hint on the first one and just chose a different brand. Ay help would be much appreciated!

Has anyone figured this out?  I have a brand new Acer Aspire S7 and having the same problem.  I updated to Windows 8.1.  Thanks for your help.

So far, we have tried to reproduce this problem on some S7's in our office, but they seem to work fine here. I would advise any of you with this problem to recover your notebook (use the Acer Recovery Manager tool in your OS) and after recovering to stock 8.0, upgrade once again without adding any software to your device before upgrading.

Also, always make sure you have the latest BIOS from our downloads-page.

Hopefully, this should help. If not, please let us know in as much detail as possible, what exactly happens and when this is happening.

    Looking forward to your messages.

This sounds really complicated to me.  I just got this computer and don't want to mess it all up with recovery, etc.  I'm pretty good with computers but don't want to start back at square one without assistance.  I called tech support and reset power options to the default as requested which has actually made the problem worse.  Now it goes to sleep and then shuts down.  I can't even get the computer to come back on without numerous attempts.  This is really frustrating.
